Yeah, I have messed around with every version of Axon. It is a cool idea and fun to but I usually end up making a mess with it.

I make loops with it, chop them up. Agreed that it's easy to make a mess of it. Also, I find myself spending too much time tweaking with it, ending up with things that sound cool but not better than what I started with. Bouncing down loops keeps me from doing that.

Besides the authorization issues that might occur, is it worth it to get BFD3 for only $39? If I do, I can pickup Oxide for free along with it.

It looks like BFD3 now uses the Inmusic software center. I recall fxpansion's past registration process being long-winded.
BFD3 is £33 at Thomann.

I used the BFG License Manager a couple of days ago when I got it. It all installed perfectly fine, I am just waiting for Drew to get back to me regarding my BFD2 library to show its license on the manager.

No issues whatsoever. Also grabbed the Dark Farm expansion and the Sabian one. The Dark Farm expansion is absolutely fantasic and I really cannot believe it has not much praise online, no videos, nothing. Extremely underrated and probably one of the best drum expansions ever made.

While the DMX is quite good I do not feel the same about the Icondrum. Between the 3 I would grab the BFD3. Getting Oxide on top is a fantastic value for money.
