AI powered plugins

It seems Orb Plugins has been acquired by LANDR and the product is now called LANDR Composer.

This is the closest to what I want “AI”
to do in a DAW, an intelligent composition aid that outputs MIDI. I don’t know or really care if it lives up to the AI designation, but I think basic music theory is a narrow enough subject that an AI model could be trained thoroughly enough but remain small. If LANDR adds a bit more guitar specific features then it would be my ideal AI DAW assistant (tab, guitar specific chord voicing, triads…).
I agree that most of the “AI” audio effects and processors would more accurately be called machine learning derived, but they really do tend to be a step above regular algorithm plugins — I had given up on amp sims ever having the right feel, but ToneX (etc.) delivers in spades!

Algorithms dedicated to composing have been a thing for a while in academia, some of the most impressive ones have even got their compositions played by orchestra.guitarzan wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 10:29 pmIt seems Orb Plugins has been acquired by LANDR and the product is now called LANDR Composer.

Don't know what is stopping any company from licensing one of those.

Hmm, yes.
Then there's AS (artificial stupidity). Perhaps 'AI' is just another one of those spellcheck fails.

AI, NS... there is machine learning. When a machine becomes sentient you will have many seconds left to enjoy.
AI makes for good copy, though. Sure it sells well.

Oh wow, didn't notice. I even have a license for Orb Producer 3, wondering how that is handled now, hm.guitarzan wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 10:29 pmIt seems Orb Plugins has been acquired by LANDR and the product is now called LANDR Composer.

The LANDR acquisition of Orb Plugins was announced here on KVR October 17, 2024. There is a brief reference to ‘existing subscribers’, but I suppose that could mean existing LANDR subscribers:
How to Access Legacy Orb Plugins Downloads
That’s about it so far regarding existing Orb customers though.
The legacy original Orb Plugins are still available to download also:https://www.kvraudio.com/news/landr-acq ... logy-61905
LANDR Composer is available now as part of selected LANDR Studio subscription plans. New and existing subscribers can access the software immediately…

I’m very interested in AI plugins. Because I don’t trust them for a second.
This is some kind of sound research to me. I can’t wait to see what new tools they’re bringing to us. Some websites make an entire song from a couple of words, some plugins master your track automatically...
To me they’re all fascinating to try and reverse-engineer. Sometimes I learn things, sometimes not. Anyway, what they call "AI" at the moment is barely usable to me, but funny and intriguing to try. I want to get how they think these tools are clever, maybe I missed something sometimes, maybe not. Well, let’s try and see ! I’m trying them all. That still appears much more exciting to me than the 25383883th Pultec emulation plugin just released...

Thank you for looking into it. Yea, the Orb Producer wasn't a subscription in the first place. Also there has been no information via email to existing customers afaik. Well, not using them much anyway.guitarzan wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 8:42 pm The LANDR acquisition of Orb Plugins was announced here on KVR October 17, 2024.
