Agreed, sometimes I just want a nice plain vanilla reverb.Caine123 wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:21 pm the Reverb seems very bad, very metallic? need to further test. but yeah you can of course use an external verb.

Oh I'm sorry, Captain Pedantic. What I should have said was that there is a 30 day free demo of all their software via their "All Access" subscription.Rastkovic wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:54 amYes, with subscription/cancel subscription, or did I miss something? The FX stuff looks good to me, but other than that, it seems to be, that Phase Plant is by far the better choice.
They want to sell something, so they have to offer an easy and hassle free way to try before buying. Anyway, it doesn't really bother me. I just use something else.

Perhaps you could point to a commercial software company that doesn't want to sell you something.

I think too, that´s good enough...zerocrossing wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 4:53 pmOh I'm sorry, Captain Pedantic. Many praised companies who don´t have anything at all... like the almighty Spectrasonics or VPS with Avenger...
Compared to this, it´s hasslefree enough to subscribe to a free month and cancel afterwards if you don´t like it...

I couldn’t disagree more. I was choosing between these 2 & went Current. I’d do it another thousand times. I’m not a fan of Phase Plant’s interface, and its modular approach is needlessly complicated. Great sound, it’s just not inviting to use, like Current is. Reminds me of a certain DAW; features for days, but a chore to have to operate.Rastkovic wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:45 am it seems to be, that Phase Plant is by far the better choice.

Phase Plant's interface is my favorite of all my synths--not at all "needlessly complicated." Not a chore at all--it's my favorite synth to patch with given its ease of use.

This is a good example of different strokes for different folks. Phase Plant is a powerhouse, indeed, but I also prefer Current's UI to it. I've found it more intuitive to build a patch from the ground up and to get inspired with. But, that's just me, and I'm cool with it.Dirtgrain wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:12 pm Phase Plant's interface is my favorite of all my synths--not at all "needlessly complicated." Same here. I wonder if I'm just really adjusted to the paradigm of having a certain number of generators and filters in front of me instead of a choose-your-own-adventure fully modular environment. It somehow reduces the friction of experimentation for me. I find Avenger is a happy medium between the two. A more conventional synth but with the ability to add a whole bunch of modules if you need them.c0nsilience wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:30 pmThis is a good example of different strokes for different folks. That said, I've been using Current more than anything else recently. Their FX plugins are so good, it encourages me to make the effects a part of the sound rather than something I slap on afterwards for a bit of polish. Looking forward to when they release waveshifter as its own plugin.

I don't think a synth like Phase Plant will ever be as intuitive as a fixed architecture synth like Current. I remember not being able to figure out why I couldn't get the generators to modulate the filters. It's not intuitive that you can put filters in the effects slots and in the generator lanes... but not all the filters. Why? Unclear. Anyway, I've used it enough to know my way around it, and the flexibility is awesome, but I don't always want or need that.c0nsilience wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:30 pmThis is a good example of different strokes for different folks. I'm not a Phase Plant expert, but one main difference between the generator and effects section is, that the generator section allows audio rate modulation between all modules.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:35 am I don't think a synth like Phase Plant will ever be as intuitive as a fixed architecture synth like Current. That's my point. Why are filters and effects in the "Generator" area? It's fine once you figure it out, but it's far from intuitive. Zebra has a similar paradigm, but is laid out in a much more logical way.Rastkovic wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 11:28 amI'm not a Phase Plant expert, but one main difference between the generator and effects section is, that the generator section allows audio rate modulation between all modules.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:35 am I don't think a synth like Phase Plant will ever be as intuitive as a fixed architecture synth like Current. Because they give you the option to add per-voice filters or output (global) filters.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:45 pmThat's my point. Why are filters and effects in the "Generator" area? It has to! The generator is being filtered at the generation step! There is no other way to filter an oscillator in a modular enviroment.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 5:19 amOh, I get why, but it makes no sense to put them in a lane marked "generator."vanerio wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:09 pmBecause they give you the option to add per-voice filters or output (global) filters.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:45 pmThat's my point. Not only that, Kilohearts offers you the possiblity to use FX Lanes as a per-voice output effect...It gives you a lot of flexibility (Poly button)!

I think everybody has different expectations on workflows and usability but for me phase plant just make sense. Everything feels intuitive and while I understand some may think differently, I fully agree with you.vanerio wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 8:58 am ....
