It was never about the sound. It was about the performance features. It was Vangelis baby because of velocity sensitivity (very rare at the time), poly aftertouch (even more rare if not unheard of), foot pedals, the pitch ribbon... hands on control over the sound, perfect for performance-based composers like The Greek.

there's a reason he absolutely drenched it in lexicon 224 reverb. the dry sound is, as you say, "not THAT good."

but this is widely known and understood, has been for years. getting the CS-80 "right" in a plugin is always a challenge because it was never about the 'sound' but rather about the features and how they translate to the computer plugin world.

that said, the sound of the ring modulator is very cool :)

Does anyone happen to know why the XILS LAB website has disappeared? Thanks.
MORE SYNTHS, MORE SYNTHS!!!

It's working for me. There was some other reports of people having issues with it. Might be localized to users and not XILS themselves. ??

Thanks so much! I emailed Xavier at Xils today, but glad to know it’s merely a glitch on my end.

And just like you waived a magic wand over my router, the XILS site loaded instantly, just minutes ago,

Just got the official announcement e-mail - that interface looks a bit terrifying to use in the included screenshots.

:!: Here's a screenshot from the AU running in Reaper. I have it at 100% and the bottom got cut off on my 3008x1692 monitor. This is as large as I can post and keep it under the max limit.

It's quite brave to put comparisons to hardware up on their website. Unfortunately, the difference is still staggering.

Why would they put that saw comparison on there when the waveform and audio are so obviously different between the hardware and software?

I mean this is the internet, you could probably post Mr. Rogers and someone would find a way to trash him. So no, your post isn't edgy in 2025, it's an expected archetype.

Not one out of the three is dead on.. That's too bad, I like their Syn'X.

Please tell me there is a compact mode. We don't need the keyboard, air vents, or a rendering of the table it is sitting on. Also that signal flow diagram is another waste of screen real estate. :dog:

Those website audio comparisons aren't great are they. Sounds decent enough to play, but not significantly better than other options to warrant a purchase.
As per all Xils synth demos on my mac, the fuzzy graphics would do my head in after a while and the preset selector buttons don't work.

That being said, I own licenses for CS-80 V, GX-80 and Model 77 already. I'll guess I pass XILS Lab's equivalent since I don't have anything else from them, and I tend to collect everything possible from developers once I make the first purchase :dog:
