Tracktion User Survey / Waveform 13.5 feature requests

Tracktion was one of the first daws to have a freeze tracks function too. I believe it was quite a unique layout and UI back in the day also. As for what comes next....'AI' or whatever algorithms pass for it. Surely a buch of daws will be wanting to get on that train, and I would guess the Tracktion team would like to be early adopters. If it's useful and actually functional it would be marketing gold.

It's still missing some important features that'd help with using hardware.fedexnman wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 8:57 pm Wasn't Trackion Waveform one of the 1st DAWs to have Stem Separation ? I'm just seeing that StudioOne7 and NI.Maschine3 is just now getting it and also the Akai MPC 3 too . I totally don't use it , but I may find a use for it one day . I think Waveform13 is great . I don't know what else they can bolt on to it to make it any better than the other DAWs out there .

In the next release, I would like to have an actually usable MIDI preview so that I don’t have to open Cubase every time I want to browse through MIDI files.
Instead of selecting “Use this plugin for MIDI preview” (and then never being able to see that plugin again), I would like to route the MIDI preview to any of the synths currently added to tracks. I want to be able to see the plugin, tweak synth parameters while previewing MIDI, change presets, etc.
Additionally, I’d like the ability to route MIDI preview to external hardware synthesizers without resorting to ugly hacks (like using third-party plugins to allow MIDI routing to hardware MIDI ports).
I’d gladly trade features like Clip Launcher for a proper MIDI preview implementation any day.

At some point in the past I asked for something very similar (play through track, not plugin) and one of the devs said something positive about the idea. I really hope it gets implemented because the way it works now is very, very clunky. Simply routing the MIDI to the left side of the plugins area on a track would make things so quick and flexible.blazon@inbox.lv wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2024 9:58 am Instead of selecting “Use this plugin for MIDI preview” (and then never being able to see that plugin again), I would like to route the MIDI preview to any of the synths currently added to tracks. Surely there must be consensus by now...

Agreed. It's much more logical when assigning MIDI output of a track, to have a MIDI channel assignment per track at that time. With option, presumably, to use CLIP channel assignment for those that still use it the current way.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but A/B comparison features (maybe comparing everything from full productions to tracks to plugin chains etc.) would be nice. See Perception AB from MeterPlugs and Metric AB from ADAPTR AUDIO. It just seems like something that would be better implemented as a built-in DAW feature than messing about with plugins.

The first PC music software I ever bought was a MIDI sequencer called Prism by Magnetic Music. It ran under DOS. This was around 35 years ago. It had some very interesting options for dealing with MIDI. I'm hoping to extract it either from a prehistoric MFM hard drive or from the 5.25" floppy disk it came on. One or both should be possible. More awkward is that I will scan the instruction manual and turn it into a PDF. I'm intending to send this to the devs to see if there are any ideas they can borrow.
I intend to also upload it all to archive.org. Don't hold your breath though; there's a lot of work involved and numerous bottle-necks in the way.

Woody posted on Facebook a comment about going to NAMM (no dedicated Tracktion booth) and coming plans...
We will be releasing a Tracktion Universe video in the coming weeks that will give you a taste of things to come this year - lots of cool stuff in the pipeline!!
Surely there must be consensus by now...

What at least works is to select an Audio Clip and in the Controls Panel use:cupcakemusic wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:18 pm Please fix the external wave editor problem in linux, never works since the beginning, no option to select an external wave editor
View Source Info --> Edit Audio File... --> Launch this wav file in its default application...
This will open the app which in your Desktop Environment is set to be the default app for opening WAV files. Have this set to you audio editor and it will open and you can edit the wav file storing the content of the selected audio clip. After saving in the audio editor, the applied changes should appear in the audio clip.

That doesn't works, it doesn't load the default editor/player, I think it's a compatibility issue with AMD CPU/GPU because for some people it works on INTEL CPUs machines, that's the linux problems, for some machines things works and for some works buggytalby wrote: Sun Jan 19, 2025 9:43 amWhat at least works is to select an Audio Clip and in the Controls Panel use:cupcakemusic wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:18 pm Please fix the external wave editor problem in linux, never works since the beginning, no option to select an external wave editor

Just to be sure we do not have a misunderstanding: not bothering about WF at this point but simply confirming the plain behavior of your Linux system, you get a WAV file opened automatically in your Audio Editor when double-clicking (or alike) on the WAV file entry as listed in your Desktop Environment's file browser?

A simpler, faster workflow for creation of sample packs (for external devices, I'm not primarily thinking about Waveform's own samplers) would be good. It's great as it is for processing, editing, chopping up etc., but the export stage is cumbersome. "Export selected clips to separate files" where the exported files are named after the clip (so you can name the clip in Waveform and carry that over to the exported file), maybe also with name affixes/suffixes to be able to for instance select all kick drum clips and export them as files with file names starting with "KD".

I've taken to just rendering and naming samples directly in the arranger and copying them across to my sample library, and I'm so stupid I literally just discovered you can open 2 browser tabs in Waveform and drag files straight across from the project rendered folder to any other folder using the little file icon.skipscada wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:09 pm A simpler, faster workflow for creation of sample packs (for external devices, I'm not primarily thinking about Waveform's own samplers) would be good. Ups. I cannot follow the idea of "open 2 browser tabs in Waveform and drag files straight across from the project rendered folder to any other folder using the little file icon".
Could you explain me once more what you are doing where?
I am curious to learn about this.
