Good point, why they thought destroying the interaction with their paying customers was a good move, is beyond my understanding, unless their goal was to try and upset even more customers and have them look for other daws.
They're running out of time if they really plan on releasing 3-4 Major Upgrades a year.

Either by design or accident, with v7 they decided to prioritise new customers over existing ones.

That's a polite way of saying they put on a big smile for new customers while taking a massive dump over their existing ones.

I was an existing one and felt the full force of their actions.

If they didn't change how we pay for updates it wouldn't be so bad, you could say it's only day 21 of Q1 of the year so plenty of time to get 4 major updates this year with 344 days left, but..... those of us who upgraded and our "year of updates" began in October, well we've done October, no major update, November no major update, December, no major update and now we're nearly at the end of January well into what is technically Q2 for us and still no major updates, so I don't see how they're going to blitz out 4 updates in 8 months, it's definitely worrying and if they don't stick to their promise then ultimately it's the last money I'll spend with them

I think our understanding of Major updates is different. Major update claims in a Daw is a huge claim. 3 to 4 MAJOR UPDATES for a Daw in a years time is unheard of.
It’d be the first time it’s been done in the DAW world to my recollection ( past 20 years) , but I’m waiting to see what they’re going to do.

I think we can agree that bug fixes aren't major updates ? That's all we've had so far

They kinda shot themselves in the foot . :hihi:

They're at NAMM this year. Looked at their published schedule and it says nothing about update announcements.
What sound do dreams make when they die?

Post

I went back to the v7 announcement video last year and here's what was said
more new feature releases early next year with 3-4 feature drops every year after that
. So they could keep their word if they introduced new features in, for example, March, August and December.

I'm keeping an open mind until we see what happens and sticking with v6 until there's some reason to upgrade. There's nothing in v7 that interests me and the reported bugs and interface changes makes me glad not to simply trust Presonus that v7 is better than v6.

I believe Presonus did not get the big celebration they were expecting with Splice and Stem Separation and add the complicated price changes to that it does not look good. I also feel like 7.1 or whatever it will be named will be a let down about the promised major updates. Maybe one useful feature and a few things nobody wants or needs.

Let's be honest: have there been so many celebrations regarding DAW upgrades in the past year? Logic? Bitwig? Cubase? For the most part, I've read a lot of complaining. We're spoiled by choices. Maybe we've reached peak consumption.

You are right not really, except Ableton I guess with 12 and 12.1 where they finally paid attention to Piano Roll and Browser.

Yeah, I agree. Ableton 12.x was praised as a solid upgrade.

I like the way Ableton does there thing . Presonus basically wants you to rent there software . I know I know I know you can get the perpetual but they are really trying to get you to rent it and keep the money rolling in . I don't see MAJOR UPDATES, I see a plugin or some sound pack thing gets released after your subscription expires to bait you back in. We will see when 12 months go by and what kind of shenanigans they have for you.

Presonus died the day that hedge fund bros Servco Pacific, (who also own Fender), bought them out. These f#cking bean counters could give a rat's behind about longtime loyal customers. They're only after a quick cash grab. Then they'll probably let it die and sell off whatever's left. It won't be the first time and probably not the last.

Servco isn't new to the instrument business – and its involvement with Fender goes way back. It has been involved in the MI industry since 1937, and began was a dealer of Fender products in the 1950s. It was even one of the investors that backed Bill Schultz in the buyout of Fender from CBS in 1985.
