you can use the beats on any kit - being cognizant that some beats expects a specific instrument on a given note :-) i have used regular beats with my percussion kit - and it alters the perception of the beat because other instruments are now playing the parts you might typically associate - e.g. the kick is replace w/ a tambourine, the snare with a clap, toms with congas and bongos etc...

Thanks Gulfo. Does the midi packs add many more patterns copared to those included with the sound packs?

yes, i own about 50% of the XLN MIDI packs and all but 3 of the sound packs. so adding MIDI packs definitely expands the options, then again i also have a bunch of MIDI from other vendors as well as a lot of custom MIDI i create for a given song.

Whilst we're on the subject of AD2 mapped midi files, I was meaning to post this some time ago, then promptly forgot...

A load of my full song AD midi files. Done in a combination of using my little midi kit thing and piano roll editing. Did used to play the drums (to a distinctly average standard) so should be technically feasible. They will work well for indie/alterative/rock of course, but could also be used for breakbeat, hip-hop or whatever, and some of the faster ones for funk. Given that they're full songs there's also a lot of use of velocity and dynamics, and a fair few sub-bonham fills/rolls. :hihi: I also put in a doc with links to the original songs, just in case anyone wants to hear them in context.

Thanks, I'll check them out and your tunes as well. Very nice gesture.

Hi, can I confirm, the way this product works is you need you first buy Addictive Drums 2 and then you buy expansions as needed. An AD Packs doesn't come with AD2 as the player, right? No where on the ADpacks pages do I see a blurb saying you need to own AD2 to use this product. Just want to confirm.

Post

Yes. ADpaks only work once you have AD2.
And AD2 can't be bought alone, it's sold with the "Collections" which always include some ADpaks.
https://www.xlnaudio.com/products?category=collections

I bought it several years ago, but trying to see the current website as a new customer, I admit it's a bit confusing.

The main page about Collection states "Each Collection includes the Addictive Drums 2 Engine", but:

The "Custom Collection" product page shows "Addictive Drums 2" listed in the included products
https://www.xlnaudio.com/products/addic ... collection

...meanwhile the so called "Curated Collections" (e.g. Heavy Rock) do NOT list it in the included products, although it should

I thought that if you get a single ADPak (there are for example the Studio Rock, bundled with some hardware), you also get full AD2?

I think that's an exception for those special offers of software bundled with hardware (e.g. a Scarlett).

Pretty sure you can't just buy a single ADpak as your first ever purchase on the XLN website and use it in AD2.
The AD2 product page states "buy now from €159", which is the price of the so called "Curated Collections".
And individual ADpaks are called "Addictive Drums 2 Expansion" in their respective product pages.

Post

Ok, makes sense. Then from their wording, I would also assume that you have to start with a collection.

Yes.
Or at least, that's the idea I'm getting from their current website.
I think it could be presented with more clarity.

I used BFD3 on my latest project, but I still like AD. :)
I wish there was a way to import samples in both of those products.

You can import samples into BFD3. Have to save them in BFD format during the process, so you’ll have the original sample still and the BFD instrument version.

Thanks, I guess I need to check out the full manual instead of just parts of it. :hihi:
