AD2 is actually a free download, it comes with a partial Fairfax 1 kit (kick, snare, hat I think).

You can then add whatever content you like. There's usually someone selling adpaks in buy and sell for cheap.

It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to get started.

Post

I seen on XLN audio site it's $169 or $159 to get started . But I think you get so many adpaks and midipaks and add-ons , for that.

Now that the free and "limited" version was mentioned, something is kind of coming back to my mind.
I think this is the article where I found out, but I already had AD2 and lots of ADpaks at that time, so I forgot immediately.

Still, I'm looking everywhere on the official website, and I can't find any mention of this time-unlimited expired functional demo.
it just says 10 days trial onall XLN products, which can be extended by contacting customer support (it says that in the trial FAQ)
https://www.xlnaudio.com/trials

So if the AD2 "engine" was still available for free with the expired trial, there should be no need to prevent the user from buying just 1 ADpack in order to start the cheapest way possible with AD2.
But then again, why does it say "starting from 169€" on the AD2 product page?

This is weird as hell.

Yep, this is exactly what I did. DL AD2 trial, and then added a single adpak. I used it for a while with just the free partial adpak it comes with.

Looking at the website, I wonder if this has changed now.

2.6 update today !

Post

I thought if you bought e.g Black Velvet, it has the player included so you can start right away.

I am sure that for a long time after ad2 release you could buy a single pak to use it, at the time they removed the "standard AD" configuration which came with 3 AD paks (pop, rock and studio?) which was how AD1 was sold.

I just wish they (and other devs that make complicated mappings) would report drum maps to the DAW. I don't even know how to suggest it to them since they removed their forum.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

You could submit a request on the support page, "Support > Contact Support > Submit a request" and then under "Category" you can select "Product Request / Feedback".

Done, thank you! I also sent a similar request to GForce for IconDrum and DMX. It's a bit weird that so few makers of drum plugins have adopted this. Once you have it (BFD/TAL Drum), the lack of it feels like 20th century tech.

Also, on the mid mapping discussion, the recent 2.6 update mentions “updated midi maps”, but I haven’t been able to find any more details as to what these changes are. A slim chance it addresses your needs, but it may be worth investigating.

I have always done it the other way, AD conforming to a given map, since that is already in the software and most DAW can map drums to the General MIDI configuration.

I saw that too and checked before posting here. It doesn't add what I want, but I have successfully put in a feature request. I got a response saying it will be passed to developers for consideration.

That's probably helpful for some people who prefer to work that way but for me personally I would far prefer to get the MIDI note names from AD's drum map.

1. GM would drop some of the useful advanced features (articulations) of AD, especially when changing kits as some kits have very non-standard pieces even for AD

2. AD doesn't and won't ever have all the GM kit pieces, nor do all the AD kit pieces have a place in the GM drum map

3. My DAW doesn't simply show GM drum map names in the piano roll

I understand it's not a necessary feature, particularly for some people, but I find it very useful and it's exactly the sort of thing that software is good at, so why not ask for it?

If I understand well, you need the names of the MIDI outputs some how showed by the DAW?
