Hi all, my Ableton Live Intro 11 now hangs on startup then once you you manage to close it it will not open at all. Cheers Glyn.

- Try to run Ableton as administrator.
- Check the Windows Event Viewer as it may have a clue as to what is going on.

Updated to 24H2 this weekend. I have done zero tweaks to the OS. Works just as good so far as 23H2. Running Cubase 14 Pro here.

I don't know if it's this or the last FL update, but I and many others are having Midi issues. Nothing broken or unfixable, just not acting the way it did/should.

I hate Windows 11 overlay of the settings which adds latency to each right-click...and the stupid windows "transparency" rounded corners that ARE NOT MATCHED WITH MOUSE POINTER PLACEMENT. Totally unnecessary and annoying.

Why in the h*ll did MS decide to add MORE overlay menus to get where you want. Layer upon layer upon layer.... I hate the "simplified" settings for everything, instead of getting all settings at once like with the Control Panel etc.

But 24h2 works fine though for audio, performance with 9000 series Ryzen is working great now.

Turned off everything bloated I could find as usual, incl the resource wasting Windows Defender etc. You don't need to scan your computer all the time. If you download something unknown, just scan THOSE files. Real-time scanner is just not needed if you know what you are doing....

Just disable it via Group Policy Editor, see below. This only works for Pro and Enterprise. Not Home edition.

You don't need to use external apps to do these things. They can brake things between Windows versions and why do people make apps to do simple settings in the first place?... If it is open source, then ok, just read the code to see what it is doing. Otherwise don't. I just avoid anything that I don't trust and that I can verify what it is doing exactly.

Tamper Protection must be disabled before changing Group Policy settings, otherwise these are ignored.
- Open Windows Security (type Windows Security in the search box)
- Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings > Manage settings
- Switch Tamper Protection to Off

To permanently disable real-time protection:

- Open Local Group Policy Editor (type gpedit.msc in the search box)
- Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus > Real-time Protection
- Enable Turn off real-time protection
- Restart the computer

To permanently disable Microsoft Defender:
- Open Local Group Policy Editor (type gpedit.msc in the search box)
- Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus
- Enable Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus
- Restart the computer

Use PowerShell check if its running or not:
Get-MpComputerStatus | select AMRunningMode



...I wrote this step-by-step guide for myself as I recently installed a new DAW:

Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Real-time protection permanently in Windows 11 Pro / Enterprise
Verified to work on Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise.
Best way is to disable it is via the Local Group Policy Editor, follow these steps:

1) Turn off Tamper Protection (Tamper Protection must be disabled before changing Group Policy settings, otherwise these are ignored).
Optionally also Turn off Dev Drive protection, Cloud-delivered protection, Automatic sample submission.
2) Run gpedit.msc (Local Group Policy Editor)
3) Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus. Edit these settings:
"Allow antimalware service to startup with normal priority" - Disabled (optional)
"Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus" - Enable
"Allow antimalware service to remain running always" - Disabled (optional)
"Turn off routine remediation" - Enabled (optional)
4) Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus > Real-time Protection
"Turn off real-time protection" - Enabled
5) Close Local Group Policy Editor.
6) Reboot (or Sign Out and Login).
7) Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage Settings. Check if Real-time protection is actually off.

Also the best tip if you don't use a pre-made autoinstaller:

Install Windows 11 without online Microsoft account
During installation when asked to login to Microsoft-account:
1. Click Shift + F10 (opens Command Prompt)
2. Enter OOBE\BYPASSNRO to bypass the stupid online login requirement.
3. Exit and continue the installation with local account only...

I don't know why Microsoft makes it so hard. I have two accounts on the computer and I can run things in admin mode, but MS wants me to log in all the time, but wants a phone number I had in 2007 to do it. I don't remember that phone number.

Anyone updated to 24H2 yet? Any issues with audio or anything else worth mentioning? I'm not that keen on updating, even if MS seems to push it onto everyone right now.

Not really. You pay at least 2.5 times and there are issues in there too. Also much fewer options when it comes to software, and every little piece of utility costs another $20 to $200 - things that on windows are either open source or freeware.

What we need is a change in philosophy+attitude, as tech companies are not responsible for anything these days, they use and abuse their users as they please with no consequences because monopoly/oligopoly. And the users unfortunately suffer from fanboyism and the stockholm syndrome
