Well, I'm very happy to pay with my time and money for them to have fun. But, if they fail, both are lost for me. Innovation is not an excuse (or a promise) for ignoring (paying) end users needs. Regarding their latest innovations, they look more on the (fancy) marketing hype side than on a rigorous one. Which would mean, improve existing to meet standards.
The list of missing controller standard features in the workflow is as long as it can be and they advertise on an overpriced one knob (orange) controller where they just used their existing API on some standard hardware components? Does it do something that the API can't do? Even the cheapest midi device has more than a learn function for its configuration. Or is it because, no wise end-user will spend months in doing something usable with their API. Except some philanthropists that I praise. Without them, I would have switched long time ago. Another distraction.

Well said. I hope someday they return to their side-project called "DAW" ... might be surpirising, but there are users of the piano roll which look enviously left and right to what other daws offer ...monolithx wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:17 pm Well, I'm very happy to pay with my time and money for them to have fun. Thinking about Bitwig I'm always torn between "what a great daw" and "why they suck so hard"... lately it's hard to balance it.
And I feel they have now slowly focused in on a target customer group which I'm afraid I'm not part off ... euro rack / modular enthusiast.

I can see it replacing my Motu M4 soon. Do we know if it has a headphone preamp?

I cant help but feel branding it 'Bitwig' with the Orange etc is a big mistake, they have made it seem like its an I/O designed 'for Bitwig' which has a very small user bases compared to all the other other DAWS added together (most hardware is sold aimed at all/any DAWS). Almost looks like a vanity project to me, I don't get bit...I/Os are generic, if you want something for Bitwig why not make a control surface?
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

It's been six months since the last post.
Who's using Bitwig Connect 4/12 and what do you think of it? What strikes me is that the Bitwig Connect Control Panel 1.0 software hasn't been updated yet, but I saw firmware v1.81 in a screenshot, which probably means improvements have been made, but there's no changelog.

I got it two months ago and I'm very happy with it. The only audio interface I know supporting Linux officially -- including the Control Panel app (which I used a bit the first day to fine tune my setup and I didn't have to touch since).
By the way, the app I have installed says it's firmware version 1.82. No idea if there is a public changelog somewhere. Also, I haven't updated it manually, so I don't know whether it was already v1.82 already when I installed around June 30.

I'm really liking my Connect 4/12. I got it to be an extra set of inputs and outputs, alongside my main studio interfaces. I use my Panorama P6 with Bitwig, which handles channel volume for the selected track and most transport functions, but I've gotten a lot of use from the Connect's encoder as a jog wheel and for controlling a selected parameter.
I'm also using the Connect 4/12 as my main monitor controller now. I have much more expensive converters in my studio but the Connect sounds great to me.
I really like having the ability to control the input settings directly from Bitwig. I can switch the 1/8" inputs between CV and audio, and I can set the preamp volume, from the track inspector. Really nice!

Full disclosure... I work pretty closely with the Bitwig folks but I paid full retail for my Connect 4/12.

I am on OSX mostly using an RME FF802 with 2 Focusrites on ADAT and ES9 + sometimes iPAD as aggregates and they are rock solid. The ES9 i/o is great for euro audio inputs but has often been problematic with c/v. My experience with Expert Sleepers software was largely a waste of time and IMO that ES9 Configurator is also just a clunky beast. I finally got C/V working through it with Bitwig HW CV but it's still wonky -ie with blinking lights that shouldn't be blinken— very much looking forward to getting my Bitwig Connect on it's way to me now from Thomann.
I also have a Babyface for remote and acoustic studio use and plan to add the Bitwig Connect to both these setups.
I had Jordon Mossburger's PUSH script but after totally dropping ABLETON I didn't think it was worth keeping the PUSH and devoting that much desk space to it after detouring with Logic and the IPAD — boy, it really would be nice to get a decent iPad controller for Bitwig… pretty hard to beat FREE +and+ BLUETOOTH wireless connectivity

Anybody else buy the Connect!?
I am loving Bitwig 6 so much and also just gone deep into modular so bought the Connect for my modular and it will be part of an aggregate device with my main 32 i/o interface. Looking forward to monitor control and Bitwig transport / functions as a bonus!

I just read (regarding phantom powered mics) "Note that gain settings made with the Connect get saved in the Bitwig Studio session, so you can pick up right where you left off the next time you launch it." That's nice. The BC 4/12 is my rescue plan for the day my current Apollo USB breaks down.

Anyone using it with 250Ω headphones? Looks like the headphone output impedance is only 4Ω which is not promising.
Not the end of the world but surprising that on such a high end interface they didn't go with a 32Ω output impedance. Then again it's entirely bus powered and USB2 so maybe it's simply not meant to drive high impedance cans. Feels weird to need to buy a headphone amp with a $600 interface.

I'm using Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros which are 250ohm headphones. They don't get as loud as they can when connected to my old Drawmer monitor controller but it can still get too loud for comfort. I don't notice any loss of high end due to loading. With that said, I haven't done any measurements.stoopicus wrote: Fri Sep 05, 2025 11:31 am Anyone using it with 250Ω headphones?
