Very clinical and plastic sounding. Not much sonic character? It's hard to describe why I don't prefer it over my other synths.

I don't agree, I think the MS-20 filter sounds better than most rival versions, and the filter is where character-shaping largely occurs. The other filter modes never particularly convinced me, but in V6 the new options with the multimode should solve that.

Huh - the ASC doesn't run for me on MacOS 13.5. Just get "not responding" and have to force quit.

Mine can't get into Arturia servers either, but their website still works and they have a downloads page

I guess it's using the same license as previous versions, because it didn't ask me to activate Pigments 6

Wow werent we just celebrating Pigments 5?? This seems so soon! I got Pigments 5 for free because of my version 4 license, but now they want $99. Im trying to review this as fully as possible before making the purchase because I am genuinely surprised at how soon this released after 5. Will review feedback more thoroughly throughout the day.

Arturia has presented three different Special Offers for Pigments owners.
Has anyone been able to complete a purchase yet?
In my case, whenever I try to click the purchase link, I keep getting a “Bad Request” error.Arturia_SpecialOffer.JPG

I see the same, and the same prices despite owning the Explorations 1 bundle. Hopefully by the time they finish the store upgrade, this will also be dealt with.

The first two own sounds i created with Pigments were sample based, using some of my own samples.
That sounded great !
But to make it jammable the way i want it to be, it had required to have sample start and loop etc CC mappable. But there was no. Whenever i tryed again after updates, there was still no CC mapping for these parameters availabe. So....i never ever used it. Otherwise, i never liked its sound.


That the update is for free is ofcoarse a super nice move.
First i´ll do is to check for CC map capabilitys

The digital sounds in those new demo vids do sound good for my taste, tho. A nice present. Much appreciated @Arturia

Yeah like stated above, if you own Pigments 5 you get v6 for free. You should see it in ASC.

i owned pigments 5 & sold my license. am i the only one? pigments is fun to play with, but i feel like it doesn't play well with other synths (i use mostly dune3, synthmaster3, spire2, vital, diva...).

even if it's just me, so it goes. but am playing with the demo now, and it's pretty great (otherwise).

Pigments has a quite particular sound to it. It's uniquely middle of the road sounding.. meaning it can be quite boring. Even distorted and "extreme" sound output still has this finger print on them. Thus if you can not work around this with external effects or clever programming, it is indeed something that could make you dislike the synth.

Having said that, I don't have any problems getting it to sit in mixes. It actually does background fill tasks very well. What it doesn't do, in my opinion, is distinct in your face and "detached from the rest" kind of sounds. It's a good layer synth. Have a strong synth sound that needs just a little bit of background layer? Pigments does that extremely well. Thus it's also very good for pads and things that need to sit way back in the mix.

Some virtual Synths like Falcon, or HALion are like Photoshop for Audio. They have a ton of different things that you can do to audio and have a deep UI with lots of complexity

Other like Pigments are like a Photo Editing App you have on your phone, it can still do quite a bit and is quite fun to use. It's not quite as deep but also doesn't have the complexity

Just spent 20 minutes trying to find my free update. I dont see it. I spent $130 on Pigments 4, got 5 for free, and the only "offer" I see is for $99.

Edit: I cant seem to start ASC either. It starts to run, then never spawns a UI element and quits. Is Arturia having trouble? I think they might be.

Ahhh it finally ran, as I wrote this. Arturia must be seeing massive traffic and/or having a site issue. Edit: and I cannot log in via ASC, or really even get the UI up. I guess Ill have to try again later or something.

lots of responses to my post!

i just spent much of the afternoon playing with the demo, and i like it. i just don't NEED it. besides, i've been weeding out synths i don't use; trying to get to a minimal setup (ie a handful of plugins but with endless sound possibilities).

it's all subjective anyway, and so tied-in-to the kind of music we make, and what we like. so, am giving P6 a thumbs-up (despite not adding it to my arsenal).
