I thought I hit POST.. sorry if this lands 2x.
So with this modal + exciter synth model; Does anyone remember that marbley synth melody in Trifonic's Parks On Fire?
I think I read this was done using the Logic 'Structure' synth. I'm excited to try to replicate this in Pigments.

I really appreciate Arturia upgrading Pigments, and even for free.
For over 20 years, I ignored Arturia software (cause of their early emulations having the reputation of not being the best).
Pigments is what won me over, by grace of its UI and polymetric sequencer
.
(By then I had already come to like some of their hardware, too)
Many people who are more knowledgeable than me complain of thin sounding analog oscillators, which makes me shy away somewhat, despite them sounding nice enough on their own to my ears.
So if Arturia would like to get me excited for V7, oscillators that sound better, or have more character, would be the feature for me.

Looks like we lost NKS compatibility again. They've been pretty good about having that ready with the initial release of most new products lately, but I guess they didn't have time to get it done this time. I thought it might be missing because I installed it with the standalone installer (since ASC wasn't responding), but I just reinstalled with ASC and Pigments still doesn't show up in Komplete Kontrol. The NI resources folder entries for Pigments are from August 2024. I guess they'll get to it when they get to it.

the updated multimode filters have been change to not lower the bass frequency when boosting the resonance. I think it<s called analog mode or something. This might helpVortifex wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:08 pmA lot of the presets seem to have something missing from the frequency spectrum, making them sound strangely airy and bodiless. A lot of the bass presets need EQ to actually give them some bass. Which is odd, because Pigments absolutely can sound huge, and easily.matamoris wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 7:43 pm Very clinical and plastic sounding. Not much sonic character? It's hard to describe why I don't prefer it over my other synths.

It is there for me, try deselecting silent installs in ASC to ensure you are installing 'third part content' (NKS). Once done rescan them in the Komplete Kontrol library page. I checked mine and it definately has NKS for the Factory 6 patches, plus a great NKS2 mapping that is far better than the previous one.Arashi wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:31 pm Looks like we lost NKS compatibility again. Not working here. I did the manual install the first time, and definitely did not uncheck "Third Party Content", but just ran the manual installer again to be sure, rescanned again in Komplete Kontrol, and it's still nowhere to be found in the list.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:40 pmIt is there for me, try deselecting silent installs in ASC to ensure you are installing 'third part content' (NKS). I even looked at all the folders in /Users/Shared/NI Resources — the "pigments" folders in there are outdated versions from August 2024 and were not updated by the installer.
Guess I could try a full uninstall and reinstall.

Don't worry about what "many people who are more knowledgeable" than you complain about. Absolutely NO ONE ON KVR is "more knowledgeable" than you when it comes to the sounds you like and the sounds you want to use. And if Arturia's sounds work for you, then it doesn't matter if some blowhard on here claims the oscillators sound "thin", fat, or anything in-between. If you like them, use them. If you don't, don't. Your opinion is the only one that matters. (Besides, if you saw what some of these people complain about in other KVR forums, you'd probably wonder why you considered their opinions so important in the first place.cptgone wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:27 pm I really appreciate Arturia upgrading Pigments, and even for free.

When you read enough posts on KVR (or any forum), you start to confuse opinions for facts. But the fact is, the sound you like from a synth is good enough. It doesn't matter who made the synth or what anyone on any forum says to the contrary.

That's odd - as you can see I have the NKS for one of the new patches loaded here with the mapping for the Modal osc in playArashi wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:55 pmNot working here. And they are in the full installer (using Pacifist to look inside)

Yeah I believe you. It just doesn't work for me. Just did a full uninstall and reinstall and I still don't see Pigments in Komplete Kontrol. I have those nksf files, but Komplete Kontrol isn't finding them.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:05 pm That's odd - as you can see I have the NKS for one of the new patches loaded here with the mapping for the Modal osc in play

Many people say the Juno line of Synths from Roland are thin sounding yet they are extremely popular and have become classicscptgone wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:27 pm Many people who are more knowledgeable than me complain of thin sounding analog oscillators, which makes me shy away somewhat, despite them sounding nice enough on their own to my ears.

The issue is especially in online forums is there is a very vocal group of users who think every synth needs to be super aggressive and phat and then bitch and moan when something isn't
While that can be awesome not everything needs to sound like that. Sometimes you just need things to sit politely in a mix and not fill up all available frequencies
Pigments is just a tool. It's tool that fills a very specific middle of the road niche. It doesn't need to be like every other tool, it doesn't need to be super aggressive or have the best distortion or be the thickest fattest synth ever
The cool thing as synthesists is that in 2025 we have never had it better. If you want thick or aggressive sounds there are a bunch of plugins that do exactly that. You can buy really good ones for a few hundred or less. Maybe even find one for free. They don't take up any physical space other than some space in our ever cheaper and larger hard drives
If you are looking for something that fun to use, pretty easy to learn, and sits politely in a mix Pigments is one such tool
Only you can decide what it important for you
Quote frankly if analog emulation is the most important thing for you a synth like Pigments is always going to be the wrong choice much like if your goal is to hammer a nail into a piece of wood a screwdriver is the wrong choice

Or you could just add param EQ to the first slot on FX channel A so the Equalizer setting is saved with the patchtrusampler wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 9:45 pm I just put an Acustica Eq , namely aquamarine or Sunray on Arturia Pigments channels and it comes aliveArturia definitely has a sound, but so does every instrument
No need for external EQ when you already have one in Pigments

Do you have this path in KK settings? If so select and rescanArashi wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:13 pmYeah I believe you. It just doesn't work for me. If not then maybe something is up with the installer - I guess it's a support issue
I suppose if you are on Mac you could maybe try extracting them manually using Pacifist as they are there in the installer (not sure if there is something like that for Windows) - then they would have to go in a user path though if the factory path itself is missing

So this one sounds better than the Jupiter 6 ?

Yeah I agree but also to me the analog OSCS are just there to be layered and cross modded with the other OSCS, as you say if someone just wants pure VA use something else, Pigments is about mashing up all those different synth types and modulating them to heaven. It's called Pigments for a reason folks! Think of it as a palette with many colours to mix up. Don't just use one colour.IvyBirds wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:15 pmMany people say the Juno line of Synths from Roland are thin sounding yet they are extremely popular and have become classicscptgone wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:27 pm Many people who are more knowledgeable than me complain of thin sounding analog oscillators, which makes me shy away somewhat, despite them sounding nice enough on their own to my ears.
