I'm tired of chasing problems, I just want to make music, man.

I'm so bitterly annoyed with fans I'm gonna get a Macbook Air :) give me SILENCE.
For real?
What kind of mic sensitivity are you working with?
The only time I have a practical problem with computer fan noise in a room, is when I use an omni condenser with 0db pad and like 40+ db of gain, with a limiter, and make-up gain. Right?
At that point you hear everything in the room, plus stuff outside even, unless a louder signal is there to push everything else down ... Which makes me wonder, how are you using your mics? I haven't had true fan noise issues for many years now. Just saying.

Sm7b, the PC is a metre away on a desk. It's highly likely I'm overreacting!

I used to have the PC under the desk and never heard it, but my active guitars caught interference being so close to the PC case so I moved it.

I'll do some recordings later and see if any noise actually picks up.
