Will your recovery disk actually reformat your drive and nuke all your data? As I understand it that is how some of them work. Nasty!
Having a second drive and using Norton Ghost or Drive Image to back it up is a good option if you want to be able to resinstate an installation. That said, my XP DAW has never needed a reinstall and it is over two years old.
Eg

Thats very good advice... Also don't use MS internet apps - outlook or IE - they are security compromised. Two good alternatives are the Mozilla spinoffs thunderbird and firebird.easymode wrote:NEVER EVER USE NORTON SHIT![]()
Just slipstream a winXP with sp2 (very easy to do), and install avg free and thats about it.
Back ontopic: Glad to see the PC is up and running Urs! Possibly the end is in sight for all of us Zebra PC wannabees

Dude, the led chains ARE the sliders... these are Penny & Giles PGF7000, which must be among the coolest hardware faders ever. They basically work so that you can move the led chain up/down with your finger, while using a feedback signal for the display, like motor fadersMystahr wrote:What a strange looking box that phondue![]()

But rethinking it, it was only 100 leds per box, but we built 2 of them

Well... I won't bother changing anything as long as it works
Now, I've successfully upgraded the standard development tools to use the latest optimizing compiler. One question though... there's a switch for using SSE instructions by default... is there any pc user out there making music on a machine without minimum SSE support?
Maybe, if the difference is noticable, I should offer two downloads? One with SSE and one without?!?
Cheers,
Urs

There are a few out there. I remember back when BillyK went all-SSE there was some weeping and gnashing of teeth. Maybe you can get away with neglecting those old-school losers, though, because you're coming over from Mac. Expectations are less.

well, that's thw problem, it doesn'tUrs wrote:Well... I won't bother changing anything as long as it works
first of all it eats CPU you wouldn't believe it
but more importantly, it's absolute shit at what it does. It's horrible at detecting new (unidentified) virusses and all types of exploits.. you might as well have your dog check for virusses.. it's the dog's bollocks

Well, oki... got the example VSTs compiled and running in SX2
But... I have a latency of more than 500ms... how can I change that to, say, 12 ms or 512 samples?!?
Cheers,
Urs

yes, which soundcard do you use?
either it has her own asio driver or you can try ASIO4all http://www.asio4all.com/
I hope you know how to choose a sound-driver in SX
good luck

Didn't you bother to get a decent soundcard? BTW, I think Cubase picks its own ASIO drivers by default even if there is a better one available. If you have a good soundcard with its own ASIO driver, make sure Cubase is using that one.

that's what you get when you come from a 'switch on computer and switch of brain' platform like MacUrs wrote:Well, oki... got the example VSTs compiled and running in SX2![]()
