Is the core library the same for BFD3.5 and BFD3.4.5.28?

you can use wayback machine to grab the old license manager if you need to roll back to a version of BFD that actually works. it lets you grab the 3.4.5.28 installer

I wonder if this is a mistake. Maybe the BFD installer is smart enough to not include beta versions but the inMusic installer is not. It's hard to believe they would release the new version without any mention of it at all.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

This is odd: in Cubase 14, I'm not getting preset browsing crashes. Are you getting this with both the VST3 and VST2.4 plugins? Are you on windows?budweiser wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 7:00 pm Crashes cubase pro 14 on preset browsing. Just updated from the good al fxpansion version, and it's not a great start...

Windows 10 22h2, vst 3. It happened once, and now it seems to work fine. Maybe it was a conflict with the old Fxpansion protection system, as i just installed the Inmusic iteration. dunno.
I have some presets that are heavily distorded on the ambimix, like if a bitcrusher was applied. BFD3 Large Verb 140bpm JE, and the others with JE at the end of the name. But there's no bitcrusher, nor any distortion effect. I don't remember those presets to be like that, hmm...

I'm happy for you that it seems to have disappeared. I thought I heard something like you described on a Sleishman Kick with a rubber mallet yesterday, but I can't hear it now. One other bug I did notice: rolls ("buzz stroke") don't cutoff with a hit under a certain velocity. That worked beautifully with BFD3.4.5.28, now this requires a harder hit to accomplish. It's clearly a bug.budweiser wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 9:49 pm Windows 10 22h2, vst 3. It happened once, and now it seems to work fine. The versions of BFD3 that aren't this beta - beta #5 - are not part of the inMusic software center regime.pough wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 7:23 pm I wonder if this is a mistake. Prior versions are only found in the License Manager, ie., from before this software center was a thing at all. 3.4 is under inMusic but the old system was grandfathered in from fxpansion.
I never heard of this public beta before this thread and subsequently seeing a thread at vicontrol where it became clear Landis' experience was no fluke. There is nothing about it at the beta team section of BFD Drums forum, speaking of no mention at all. So if y'all are looking for a final release this ain't it. A beta 6 is probably not going to happen as beta 5 is now public.
They're still taking bug reports, there are numerous nontrivial bugs. I have reason to believe it's going to be in beta another month.

all of the new versions of the expansion libraries have a really trivial addition:
in Preferences, Content Paths manager, the 'new version' has that black bar, or something else, in place of what you get on the right, which I did not download anew.
Frankly I'd bet that any functional difference will be to the detriment if anything. This is laughable.
The only additions I've heard of are that tambourine and drum cases bonuses in the Core lib.

And it seems now that BFD License Manager (as opposed to inMusic Software Center) is not operational for downloading BFD3.4.5.28 anymore. When attempting the DL (in a vain attempt to restore BFD 3.4.5.28) I received notice that LM needed to be updated. The update is- you guessed it- inMusic Software Center.jancivil wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 10:29 pmThe versions of BFD3 that aren't this beta - beta #5 - are not part of the inMusic software center regime.pough wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 7:23 pm I wonder if this is a mistake. The inclusion of the rock tambourine seems to duplicate a sound that was available, I think, in BFD2 (I do own it at any rate, though I'm unsure in what version or expansion it came in.)
Again, Jan, thanks for sharing here. It's helpful.
To whom my mention of BFD3.5's core library question was the cause of any hassle, please forgive me for the post. I had no idea that 3.5 was not a final release rather than a public beta. I certainly wouldn't have downloaded it myself if I had known that. It was not my intent at all to cause anyone any problems, loss of time, or instability.

Yeah, I remember that tambourine from somewhere seems like a long time ago. Seems like it was a free bonus after the fact of something, like this hihat I remember fondly Slingerland Zildjian 15A Sweet. amazingly I just found it in a folder here, El Dorado Extras. BFD1 era.
I know 'they' were talking killing the old LM dead/dead, I guess they weren't just whistling "Dixie".
Right now BFD is in purgatory.
inMusic SUCKS.
I bought a controller, an AKAI thing last year from them. It was sold as compatibile with Cubase and with Sonoma OS. It didn't communicate properly with Cubase MIDI Remote manager or whatsit. Its documentation lied about its functionality per the standalone app. It was hard-wired to do what it does and it won't do more, the communication appeared to function but it didn't actually. No change of configuration occurred.
I guess this was AKAI stuff before it was acquired by this monster (very old-school device, felt like 25 yrs ago), but I was dealing with inMusic support and they showed their laziness and lack of interest in spades. I had my bank take my money back. Their support then tried to reopen the ticket and try to do more - more than once - but I was done talking.

I'm hoping that 3.5 gets the bugs out soon. For me, I can't abide the buzz roll bug: that's just weird.jancivil wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2025 2:45 am Yeah, I remember that tambourine from somewhere seems like a long time ago. I did manage to get 3.4.5.28 working again. I had the installer file saved somehow, so I moved the 3.5 program folder, removed the VST2.4 and VST3 files and ran the installer, but there's a trade-off (Now, that's a SURPRISE!) Quite a few of the presets and kits are either empty or missing one or two pieces and the stand-alone program won't connect with my audio. OTOH, I tend to run presets and kits I've made and they're fine and I never use the stand-alone. And, of course, the buzz roll bug is gone. So, I'm considering the options. If I didn't have all the expansions I do and was less in love with the amazing sound of the kits, I'd probably check out something else entirely.
I do hope that they get 3.5 fixed. Without Drew on the case, it might take a while.

It appears that BFD 3.5 has been released - https://forum.bfddrums.com/t/bfd3-5-rel ... music/8598
FWIW, I don't think you can get the update from the BFD License Manager.

I think maybe I should hold off on updating after what some of you mentioned here.
