Yes, and side-chain the original signal into the gate.cryophonik wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 2:22 am Usually, the best solution is to put a gate plugin right after it.

A great many of the Nomad Factory plugins are perfect for adding a vintage vibe. The NF Integral Studio Pack is often available for around 100 bucks (not at the moment, however). NF is in the process of upgrading all the plug-ins in the pack, which includes added features, VST3 support and more, but this has been a gradual process and there's still a long way to go to get them all upgraded. Still, buy the pack now (or when next on sale) and you get all the forthcoming upgrades for free. If you can live with some VST2 plugins for a while, the Integral Studio Pack on sale is a seriously good deal (under $2 per plugin, some of which are very good).

Sonitex, rc20, cassette, vybez, Chip crusher, etc there's lots of all in one sound degraders. Speakerphone is very pricey but about the best for all things lofi (includes various sound compression algorithms on top of all the distortion and noise and mic and speaker simulation). Any convolution processor combined with some noise and distortion would get you in the ballpark with the proper IRs.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Good call, I found that some of the Blue Tubes stuff distorts in a very pleasing and gritty way when you drive it hard. Sounds "vintage".dmbaer wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 9:21 pm A great many of the Nomad Factory plugins are perfect for adding a vintage vibe. A well-behaved signature.

It does sound really good, I've been pestering the developer about porting to VST for over a year now. He says it's possible but no action so far...
Another good one for vinyl simulation is Tokyo Dawn Record's Simulathe. Expensive (although the "Ref" version could be had for $50 on sale recently) but it is probably really accurate and sounds good. Crackles, pops, machine hum and noise, etc. Only thing it lacks is playback speed instability and warping (the "wow and flutter" of vinyl).
A well-behaved signature.

Another one I had to mention: Blezz Beats SNOP
https://www.blezzbeats.com/snop
The demo's sound really good and the developer seems like a cool guy.

The video Mr Snake Oil just posted on the new Hornet Overtones thing at times sounded very vintage-distorty. Seems a bit unready perhaps.

That reminds me Illangelo used the Reaktor VHS Audio Degradation Suite on some of The Weeknd's stuff.

Wavesfactory is good and you can enable or disable the noise-automute feature. Safari Pedals Time Machine is another option and offers different tape and vinyl sounds very QUICKLY (there's no automute unless you automate it). One I really like is BabyAudios tAIp but the noise is always automuted (the noise stops when there's no input - which personally I dislike) and it also has no oversampling which can be quite apparent in the more extreme settings, with the drive turned back quite extensively it is a very nice sound though. AudioThings REELS is also very good for a VERY LOFI sound.

Yeah, that was exactly the point; that you guys could recommend me a variety: vinyl, tape, speakers simulation, guitar amps, old comps and so on! Did not say it especifically because wanted the one that came to your mind first! As the best efficient. Any idea?Lotuz2019 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 7:47 amCould you be more specific? There a quite a few plugins available that can age your sound in various ways. Do you want studio quality sound from a certain era or do you want to make it sound very lofi like dusty vinyl recorded onto worn tape played back through tiny speakers for example?Transfigurationsofbeing wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:07 am I'm looking for a plugin that ages the sound

RC-20 does most of that, is the first one that came to mind, and is efficient.Transfigurationsofbeing wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2025 4:51 pm Yeah, that was exactly the point; that you guys could recommend me a variety: vinyl, tape, speakers simulation, guitar amps, old comps and so on!
