Interestingly, both bands did way better in the album charts but they both had their 15 minutes before sliding into obscurity pretty quickly.
This is an understatement, 6 top 1 UK albums just for chemical brothers....

Anyway, chemical or Prodigy are not pop music and you can't expect the same level of success than Rihanna or Elton John.

They are fully underground bands that have become mainstream (hugely mainstream) and then have contributed to make a totally niche genre mainstreams...

After for sure, my grand mother doesn't know them ... They are not Taylor Swift for sure...

The same debate could go for massive attack and portishead. They have revolution music by making trip hop mainstream.
They have put a solid stone to music culture...

At least European music culture if you want. I am not sure about US and Australia.

The thing is, though, you suggested they had a lasting impact on the music scene, which is clearly not the case.

Why is anyone even talking about the worst music from the worst era? What’s next, White Town?
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

That's absolutely f**king ridiculous. You could say the same thing about Nine Inch Nails and Industrial music, except that Industrial music existed for years before NIN came along and for a few more years after that, before NIN had some mainstream success. That doesn't make NIN innovators in any way at all. Good at what they do, sure, but nothing particularly new or original and certainly not innovative.

Oh, and BTW, apparently Port-a-shed hated being called "Trip-Hop" and it's certainly not what I think of when I hear their shitty, boring, slow, dull take on Pop. There is nothing different enough about Port-a-shed or Massive Attack to warrant a different genre. That's nothing more than the irrelevant stupidity of the EDM mindset. It's not chemistry, you don't have to examine everything under a microscope to classify it by the tiniest differences in its component parts. It's f**king stupid.

They do it with Industrial, too, trying to find differences that make something EBM, Electro-Industrial, Dark Electro, Aggrotech/Hellektro, Power Noise or Industrial Rock/Metal but it's all the same f**king thing and a lot of bands would cover all of them in a single album. It's not helpful and it is totally meaningless, just like the distinctions you are trying to make with The Prodigy and Massive Attack. They didn't invent a genre, they didn't make a genre popular, they just made something a little more commercial that got them into the charts.

The Sex Pistols changed the music industry forever, which allowed Nirvana to do something similar, although less far-reaching, 20 years later. There really hasn't been anything even remotely on that level since.

See, you are losing track of the discussion and after you get upset for nothing. Not good for your health my friend.

I didn't say they are innovative, I said they revolution music. Big beat was a very strong underground music genre of the 90s and they made it mainstream with their great talent. The base discussion was about AI and sampling if you remember.

As for your taste in music and your thoughts about Portishead, they are yours and mostly not interesting to me (as mine to you I guess).

At least I'm not resorting to semantics because there was definitely no "revolution", as I pointed out. More like a tiny blip on the radar - there one minute, gone the next. You don't need talent to take something mainstream, you just need a more commercial approach or attitude. I sure as f**k don't see or hear any talent in The Prodigy or Chemical Brothers. They are good at what they do but not as good as some and no better than dozens of others. Just because you like them doesn't make them good, just as being popular is not the same as being good.
