Korg multi/poly native - reimagined Mono/Poly Synthesizer plugin

I'm really enjoying trying the demo of this plugin, but man it's buggy. Here's an easy one to reproduce. Load the Init Performance. Switch Osc 1 to Waveshaper mode. Grab the gain slider and move it to 100. Play a note. Nothing happens. And now the plugin is broken until you reload it. I'm guessing it outputs a NaN or something, the NaN gets detected by the last step of the plugin's output stage, and then the plugin shuts off its own output as a safety measure until it gets reloaded. Just a guess, though.

NaN would blow your speakers. This is going into DC, I am suspecting, as waveshapers sometimes can. Doesn't happen with every waveshaper type, either. Bypassing the filter brings the sound back after you reduce the waveshaper gain a bit, btw. You don't have to reload the plugin.

I'm also noticing it has a problem with gui<->audio thread contention or locking or something when adjusting knobs in the GUI while playing notes on Windows. It will cause CPU spikes. My guess is that the GUI is holding a lock while doing something and it blocks the audio thread, causing a spike and an audio dropout. You can easily see in this image when I switch from just playing the keyboard, to tweaking the cutoff filter knob in the plugin GUI while playing the keyboard.

Seems like it's NaN.EvilDragon wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:52 pm NaN would blow your speakers. This is going into DC, I am suspecting, as waveshapers sometimes can. It doesn't always recover for me after toggling the filter on or off or whatever.
And yeah, it did give me a really nice pop-and-silence on my headphones.

It always brings the sound back over here as long as you reduce Gain for waveshaper to below 100.0 after it happens, and bypass the filter. Every time!

I downloaded the demo and spent some time with it. I also loaded different synths and went comparing sound/features and design.
The synth GUI is better than I expected but it still average. Anyway, the sound is very good but didn't blow me away, like said ARP2600 or Odyssey did. Judging from the presets and some tweaking, well, I have mixed feelings. Anyway, I felt I should compare it to Pigments, Massive X or even Modwave. So, after going back and forth, I didn't feel it is better than the three mentioned. Maybe if I don't have such synths, Multi/Poly would be a good 'super' synth.
Multi/Poly has most of the functionalities of Modwave plus it has a waveshaper engine or synthesis. However, I prefer the Modwave because of its much simpler and clearer design and GUI. 'Less is more' here for me
Of course I'm talking about the software only as I don't have any of the hardware related to Korg.
What I really wanted is Mono/Poly version 2 or enhanced. No layers and no complex sequencer. Just an improved realistic filter similar to the old analog version. So, I wanted a Mono/Poly in the same line of Odyssey and ARP2600. That would be on my shortlist to buy, but Multi/Poly I don't think so, as I already have several others that do a similar job but with better design and workflow.

Well, multi/poly does have the (very) improved Mono/Poly filter in it! And you can absolutely make sounds in the style of Mono/Poly!

How dare you suggest something so arcane! HOW DARE YOU!?EvilDragon wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:43 pmIt's explained in the manual, page 47zerocrossing wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:05 pm Can someone help me out with figuring out the filter tracking? I appreciate that they added flexibility, but I’m having trouble just getting it to behave like a standard synthesizer.![]()

I learned the nearly-very-hard way to stick a limiter at the end of the chain when dorking around with a new synth or preset pack, just in case.tumface wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:07 pm And yeah, it did give me a really nice pop-and-silence on my headphones.![]()

I'll give this another try. To be honest I haven't considered the Classic analog workflow as too much is going on.EvilDragon wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 10:26 pm Well, multi/poly does have the (very) improved Mono/Poly filter in it! And you can absolutely make sounds in the style of Mono/Poly!

Ok guys, you may finally stop arguing and be friends again, because i bring the ultimate truth about the korg multi poly vst.
This thing sounds great, but it is slow...damn slow. it's very slow changing presets on my I7 5GHz windows 10 and it's very slow changing presets on my macbook pro m1. It seems like lately all plugs are built on the same very slow framework. wink wink, pigments 4.
I see many people complaining about the gui having too many tabs, but what would you expect? this synth has a ton of features. the only solution to not having a lot of pages woud be to cut down on the number of features. there is nothing that can be done about that. About the interface being slow, i guess with a little bit of work thinks can get a bit faster, if korg decides to care.

Be it one of the best / fun workstation synths or not, I am just happy that the korg team finally does complex VAs again. I think that's where they are best and known for. This one and opsix are their top tier for me.
Since there is some tendency in bigger (audio) companies to resell the old stuff over and over again, and doing marketing decisions which cement poor features and boring products.

I don't have a problem with the amount of tabs, but more about how they are presented. They worked to have this unified look, but took it too far. They need something to visually break up areas so the different parts are more apparent.hcv242 wrote: Sat Mar 08, 2025 1:53 am Ok guys, you may finally stop arguing and be friends again, because i bring the ultimate truth about the korg multi poly vst.

Presets change instantly over here (and also without cutting out previous sound).

Is it possible to somehow duck the delay fx based on the dry signal, maybe by using a mod processor? It also seems to me that I cannot modulate the input trim of the delay fx at all. I only have the options "delay edit" 1..3 then...
Ok, it works like this, sadly I cannot target input trim:
