The thing no one says is: His pacemaker stopped recording on 2/17. Hackman is/was not a poor man with no friends or family. I find it hard to believe no one noticed them missing for this amount of time.

latest news about the deaths
wowie
i can`t believe all my guesses were true:
wife died about a week before gene did
gene wasn`t tech savvy because he had alzheimer`s
he was left all alone for about a week
dog starved because woofwoof couldn`t get out of the kennel
gene was 95
his wife took real good care of him
extended his life by over a decade?
average male life span is about 80 for males and 84 for females
they were both recluse
no one was taking care of gene`s wife, she was old herself, she was 60 something?
females are suppose to live longer than males
it was like the reverse in gene`s and his wife`s case

It's wild to think he was in the house a week after his wife died.

They weren't recluses by all accounts - they were part of the artistic community where they lived. But yes, that does seem to contradict what happened after her death. Grief affects people in many different ways, especially if there are other factors involved.harryupbabble wrote: Sat Mar 08, 2025 4:46 pm latest news about the deaths

And 60 really isn't that old

We watched Poseidon Adventure last night.mjolnir wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 5:36 pm my fav gene hackman role was that off the grid guy in Enemy of the State (with Will Smith).
that was classic decent stuff all the way down to the faraday shielding. granted, the movie is bonkers, but it's still kinda cool.
It is one of my favorites with Mr. Hackman.

i do think that 60 something is old
you guys don`t think that`s old?
holey moley
i`m genuinely shocked
even the government think that 55 is old
one is qualified to apply for early pension at 55?
or is it 60?
they start applying the word "senior" at 55
or maybe even earlier than that?
and at 65, one of the three pensions is named "old age security"
and in the developed countries, 80 (male) and 84 (female) are the average lifespan
this means that 40 is middle age
this means that 60 is three quarter of an average lifespan spent
and at around the 60 something mark...
people start dying of "old age diseases"
david bowie died of liver cancer when he was 69
so many rip threads of people dying at around the 60 something mark?

Cancer isn't age specific, and you can die of most things at any age.harryupbabble wrote: Sun Mar 09, 2025 4:05 pm

Life expectancy in the west is approx 75-85.
I would say anything over 80 is considered 'old'

Statistically, 76+ is old

Yeah, and cancer has many triggers, including environmental and hereditary ones.
Edit: didn't Bowie die of cancer because he smoked?

At 95, his Alzheimer's would have been severe. He may not even have understood that his wife had died, or even more horribly may have "discovered" she was dead over and over again. Heartbreaking.

Gene didn’t not know enough to let the dog out of its kennel or feed it, so he likely couldn’t care for himself. It’s weird that Betsy got no treatment for her hantavirus. Seems they died from social isolation.
