Connecting a usb mic

If I buy, for instance, the Audio-Technica 2020USB+ Cardioid Condenser Microphone, will Mulab see it straight away as a direct input, or will i need to install ASIO4ALL drivers, and do all the business of setting things up?

I bought a Shure mic, few years ago and MuLab sees it ok without ASIO4ALL.
Technically, it's not a USB mic, but I did purchase an XLR to USB adapter and it works.

Typically, your computer's built-in sound card (likely either MME or WASAPI) should be able to pick up your USB microphone. IMO there's not really any harm in installing ASIO4ALL in case you have trouble with how your computer handles USB microphones, or even just to have as another option.
If you test your mic input in Windows' audio settings and can confirm everything works, MuLab will more than likely pick it up no problem.

Ok, thanks for both your info. Is it just a case of ceating an audio track and selecting direct input to hear the usb mic? Is it this simple?

I don't have practical experience with a USB mic but i know MuLab can only connect to 1 audio device at a time and obviously it needs audio output so possibly this will need some trickery with Asio4All to combine the USB mic input device with the onboard/external audio out device.
