Problem is, the released source code is an even older version, so the changes in 1.5.5 (?) are not in there. The released source code is closer to the first original release? Probably why it wasn't taken up by others so far it seems.

As much as I hate to admit it, Vital might actually be dying. Even the forum is going down. It's being flooded with spam posts for more than a day now with no moderation efforts whatsoever. I tried to flag as many spam posts as possible, but ran into a limit. And this crap just keeps coming.
Sad to see that community go down.

I can imagine the GPL 3.0 license stopping a few people.Largos wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 11:45 am Version 1 is open source. There's nothing to stop anyone doing their own version. There's nothing to stop you employing a programmer to make all the additions and changes you want to it.

Its not a good sign when you don't see updates, yet Vital is still current and compatible with new OS and Apple Silicon.
Some developers while aren't actively updating their products are at least making sure they are compatible with future versions.
Once a product fails that it is abandoned. That said i don't know of any new drastic changes.
Good thing with Vital is it can be used freely. And with the option to pay i think there will be an incentive for the developer to keep it going especially with a major Serum update.
That said I think Vital doesn't have to rush. It will remain a solid choice for people wanting a nice wavetable synth but limited funds.

Yeah the vital forum is now a wasteland of spam... is this guy paying attention to anything going on with his product, one wonders?

That's unfortunate. Vital is a very good piece of synth, at this point i really hope the dev will uploade the source code of the latest version and removes the copyright of the name and everything for the community, so hopefully some people like the surge team could take it and make it fully open and supported

Why? GPLv3 grants users the freedom to use the software for any purpose, modify it, and distribute it, even commerciallynanostream wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 3:29 pmI can imagine the GPL 3.0 license stopping a few people.Largos wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 11:45 am Version 1 is open source. All they have to do is continue to make the source code available also under a GPLv3 license

I have some great news. It turns out Mr Tytel is working on Visage. It's a UI library he's working on.
Maybe he's planning to use this library inside Vital?

This is old news and it means that Tytel really hasn't been working on Vital for years now and likely won't, as they've said they're working on other plugins. But it seems they're not, they're working on Visage and surfing on California beaches.3lu5iv3 wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 2:12 am https://github.com/VitalAudio/visage

Good for them ig. Just don't get your hopes high about updates. It's easy to deceive oneself into believing something that's convenient. It's a great synth, but it's not a commercial one, so don't expect that kind of software or customer support. It's more like a hobby turned side hustle.

That personal issue of theirs got resolved two years ago. I think we shouldn't get too much into that since it's their personal issue, just pointing it out.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:20 pmPretty sure he spoke of illness (his or his family?) and comfirmed Vital was stil being worked on. Also seemed clear that the dev is not the 'daily update on my progress' type, and perhaps resents the pressure to have to do so. I suspect that the majority of the user-base uses the free version. If that is the case, I can understand why they perhaps don't feel beholden to others' expectations.Igro wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:13 amOk. Anyway, I could be wrong. Either way, if you want to prove that someone has lied then show evidence contradicting what they said. Extent of silence ain't that.
It doesn't really matter at this point. It is what it is.

Yeah you're right. I shouldn't get my hopes high about updates but i kinda want to believe that he will work on Vital once Visage is done. Don't know why but i just wanna stay positive.AlQuzMar wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 9:20 amThis is old news and it means that Tytel really hasn't been working on Vital for years now and likely won't, as they've said they're working on other plugins. It's just adding on speculation, but the GitHub link itself could imply a few things: The VitalAudio GitHub group bundles project that are related to Vital itself and its web-page, Discord etc. By putting "visage" in, it looks like the developer is moving out the UI/GUI code from the vital codebase itself, into a reusable library and a project in its own. Probably he's then using it as a dependency of Vital in the future / current dev builds.
So to me it's a sign that development on Vital is still going on, but doing a major UI/GUI rewrite with GPU rendering is no small task (Bitwig recently did this, too). But yeah, it could also mean that the dev is working on another plugin and wanted to reuse the code that was previously inbuilt to Vital.
