I havent come across any plugin that can pitch track a guitar accurately and then allow you to control a mono synth like in the Micro synth or Digitech synth wah

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

This does a pretty good job.

No, right now hardware is the only way. I have some audio triggered synths but they need a lot of time configuring filters for input tracking.

Fretted synth has some but they're 15 stock lowpass filters and dont count on the high e string to even play.

It's an untouched market, unless you can put in time to build it, go hardware.

Thanks yea it seems like something that doesn’t exist like how those pedals were able to do such a good job.

A computer should be able to handle that though right?

Ha! That’s literally the only one I found That does it.

It seems easy to implement right?

Yeah, generally pretty easy. The user interface isn't the most intuitive, but once you figure out what everything does, it's fairly simple. There was some bug in v2 when you try and host a plugin inside it, but I just route the outgoing MIDI to another track and it seems to work fine.

Still, most of the time I just will play the line on a keyboard or my Rise 49. I got so frustrated with MIDI guitar solutions over the years that I just taught myself how to play. I'm not great, but I can get around OK.

I had a Digitech Synth Wah for about a week and traded it for a Bass Synth Wah (BSW), and have spent time with the EHX MicroSynth. The thing is - not all of the tones are actual "synth" in terms of triggering an oscillator, of course some like the classic Daft Punk tone are. The Digitech pedals had the best octaver tracking around when they were released, and have modes with lowpass, formant filters and (I believe) bit reduction, controlled by signal amplitude envelope. Similar with MicroSynth (octave up/down, square wave, modulated filter), IIRC there's a good version in NI Guitar Rig.

I'd certainly check out plugin versions, but you can get a lot of the classic sounds by combining a few basic effects.
Like others said, hardware pedals have the edge in realtime response on guitar and bass, especially for something like the bassline to Stevie Wonder's "Boogie On Reggae Woman".

Awesome thank you. So what other plugins have this pitch tracking, micro synth sound? I know You mentioned Guitar Rig? Not just an octave down but more so something that triggers an osc ?

Thanks I think the issue is that the micro synth has a square wave but the Digitech synth wah is doing something different? I’m not sure exactly I’ll have to play with it

Yeah the Digitech has the formant talk-y stuff and likely some FM going on. I've found a few plugins over the years that reminded me of what it does but I forget what they are right now (I think NI FM8 effects version is one).

Doesn‘t the microsynth simply takes the input signal as oscillator? Clip it hard and you have a square waveform. Add a filter triggered by a gate. All that is easy to do analog. Pitch tracking requires digital algorithms…

I think it’s already a square wave. I’m not sure how it works though, I looked It up before but forget.

Neural DSP has the Rabea X amp which contains a cool mono synth. When I tried the demo it did track really well.

Worth checking it out.
