Hi,

I use the regular MWaveshaper as a clipper a lot.

Trying to use MWaveshaper MB as a multiband clipper doesn't work as intended. The problem here
is that the output level goes way above the ceiling. I've tried all kinds of crossovers, no oversampling etc. Still the same...

The main reason I tried to look into this was the recently release Kraftur by Soundtheory, which is a multiband clipper.

afaik, due to phase shifts, you'll always get overs with filters. Linear phase doesn't shift phase but does add preringing which may have an effect on the overs. More than likely, it's due to inter-band interference: like the constructive interference at the crossover point.

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure if you are correct.

I don't get overs with e.g. the Multiband Limiter. Also, levels stay the same (input/output are equal) when no gain applied. The drastic overs only happen, as soon as I start clipping (raising input until gain reduction is happening).

That very well could be. In any case, here's some other resources I found which might help:

A little late, but maybe my reply is still helpful.

I think this is happening because you're increasing the volume for each band, and when they are added back together, you'll have a louder output.

There are two ways to deal with this.
1) Reduce the overall output volume either manually or via the AGC function.
2) Enable Automatic gain control for each individual band.

MLimiterMB probably has an additional limiting/clipping stage after the individual bands which prevents overs.
