I'm pretty sure some of those colour combos breach the Geneva Conventions

Does Reaper really still look like that and not have UI GPU acceleration, I can never tell if people are trolling or not when I see Reaper screenshots?

I can never say if posts like this are troll or not... I find it simply impossible that one cannot find a theme that is likable, given how many skins there are, especially themes like Commala, Smooth 6, or Reapertips. And, after using it for a while, the default theme is not so bad at all.
These are my 2 cents, of course (troll-free).

The default theme is fine. You're just all soft, whining pussies :hihi:
Definitely better looking than Cubase 2.0 anyway.

ReaperTips theme is really great, and love having the plugins accessible on each track like pro tools/logic.

Liero wrote: Mon Jan 07, 2019 3:12 pm I'm continually annoyed and/or surprised that REAPER still has a dedicated UI/graphics person who in my opinion just has a very bad sense of what looks good and is easily readable, making the DAW in its default state the ugliest of the "big" programs out there.

The default theme colors and icons are just a horrible mess to my eyes.

Luckily there are themes to choose from - my favorite has been RADO for about five years straight.
It's all in the eye of the beholder, no?

It's funny though, when I'm working in Reaper, I just want the UI to stay out of the way and default 5 does that, but in Bitwig I kinda like the bling...

Also (afaik), WhiteTie is not a Cockos employee, they don't have a full-time graphics guy.
No one will ever claim to be a full time graphics guy for Reaper, imagine trying to find work after putting that on your resume. Does REaper even use gfx acceleration or at least working toward implementing it in the future?

Honestly, there are soooooooo many horrible ones out there, that it is really hard to find the good stuff, and I don't blame people for struggling to find a theme that looks good. I don't consider it trolling to point this out.

Reaper has pretty serious limitations with its UI engine, and writing WALTER code and relying on pink pixels and that kind of stuff, is seriously underwhelming to work with. I gave up, the process of making a theme is just seriously unenjoyable.

I think they need better UI tech to be honest. The default theme hides the dB meter text in pursuit of cleanliness. None of the other major DAW's do this. There's a reason for that.

You can't even - unless it has changed in the last few years??? - orient the meters horizontally or vertically in your WALTER code. It is automatically done based on the height and width.

Hiding the input selection menu in the TCP ... again, another thing done for cleanliness reasons, which impedes workflow.

There's lots of little things like this done for Reaper 7, that in my opinion are a huge step backwards versus Reaper 5 and Reaper 6.

Inquasar Dark Matter, simple, clean, easy on the eyes, works for me.

YMMV

I don't use any theme - the entire screen is blank, forcing me to use my ears
