I've tried the demo, and wow, even quite a few of the apparently fairly minimalist presets just kill my - admittedly oldish - PC. Playing more than one note at a time, anyway. If that, in some cases.
I'm using a Ryzen 7 9700X with a buffer of 256 and the pad Pacific Rain with quality on High pushes the CPU meter in FL to 100%. If I drop quality to Good it takes about 10% off that. But that's without adjusting its high polyphony count. Cutting polyphony to 12 halves the CPU hit. Most of the patches are well under 30% with normal use. I'd say it's about on par with Pigments in terms of CPU hit.
Pacific Rain with 4 notes held shows up to 40% audio buffer processing in Live 12 on my M1 Max with 64/128/256 buffer. I think the Spectral engine needs more juice than others which are significantly lower. Although, in overall CPU use terms that only equates to less than 4%, so multiple instances would be fine across all cores. Korg Multi/Poly is similar for multi-layer pads.
On my AMD 3950X system, that particular patch will exceed 100% of a core. Even with Unison voices at 1 for that OSC. And even with fairly limited polyphony.

Hence why I think it's a bug.

How about other workhorse synths, especially Falcon? I like how Icarus can sound like an Ensoniq synth.

Hi everyone, I love the new serum 2 but was wondering if anyone has found an easy way of loading multisamples as you can't just drag and drop wav samples?

You have to make an sfz file first.

Here is a video of converting Bitwig Multisample file, but it is also true for converting other formats. Though pure wav to SFZ failed for me. Bitwig Multisample to SFZ works great. I didn't try other options .

Great synth! Just like I expected it to be. But having the Pigment and PhasePlant already, not sure if I need it. Too many overlap features between the three synths. The voices in my head are arguing at the moment....

I sold Pigments one year ago. And don't test PhasePlant (I know that this one is really good as well). Many years I don't purchase Serum. But this one is re great! Purchased it immediately.

Is it time (and I already suspected it might be...) to upgrade? And if so, to what, would you say?

No, I'm not likely to get this synth regardless, but assuming this is anything to go by, other software could easily be just as demanding, or more so...
If the high CPU patches are using the Granular oscillator, quite a few of us believe there may be a CPU bug affecting that particular osc type. I don't think it's confirmed by anyone yet, but that is the likely culprit.
Ah - glad someone else is noticing this re: the granulator. I knew going in the spectral oscillator was going to wallop my cpu hard, which it did, but wasn't expecting to see quite the hit I was seeing on the granulator. If it's a bug that makes sense.

Ah man, why did you have to tempt me :dog:

Multisample import might be too much to resist now!

Trying to decide if I should get this or Current while its on sale. Demoing Serum 2 now, I had the 15 day Current demo, but it expired and I didn't have enough time with it. Otherwise using Phase Plant and Vital. Leaning towards Serum at this point.

Would be really cool if there was some sort of "per voice randomness" modulation. So you add it as a source on say, a warp knob on oscillator 1, and it randomizes the setting for that warp knob on each voice individually.

I simply refuse to even see the granulator.
On first run, just switching it on and enabling the warp fx, sent my i7 skyrocketing from 3% up to 20%.
Realised I could lower it by drastically reducing grain number (or length or whatever it is), but by that time the damage was done.
I think I'll feel a lot less limited if I simply don't use it.
Spectral osc is more than enough for my creative side.
Plus, I got MGranularMB anyway, with tonal / transient splitting, so I won't be losing too much sleep over Serum not having it.
(Highly recommend the Melda one to anyone else in similar boat)

Is everyone using version 2.0.16? I'm not seeing that kind of cpu hit.

the cpu was too much, I haven't noticed I had my buffer size at 64 samples, so I went to 128 and it is way better, now only a few patches go to crazy use of CPU.

I think this should do:
R-click any target: Mod Source -> Note -> Note On (Discrete)
