What’s an example of good UI in your opinion?kritikon wrote: Mon Mar 17, 2025 5:31 amNah, I checked out their other plugins, and they have the same sort of GUIs on all of them. Obvs it's down to subjective taste, but I'd call all of them ugly AF. TBH I'd really struggle working with any of them. They're on a par with those awful early Fabfilter GUIs (which haven't improved much over the years either). They could at least make it look like they'd put SOME effort into GUI design...DNAudio wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 5:02 pm
I'm sure this is just the beta UI, and I wouldn't call it "ugly", just not fully refined yet. Goodhertz makes some of the best plugin UIs out there.![]()

I have vulf and it's great. I can't imagine in what way it's even remotely related to mastering or are they just using the name to sell a completely different thing.

Kotelnikov's a decent one, considering how much stuff it does. Good graphical representation and clear knobs, defined sections. Not cluttered despite an insane versatility and depth.

This is so obvious that any numbnut can understand it.

I don't always much like these flat type of GUIs but this one makes itself fairly obvious what it's doing without looking like a cartoon.
Whereas this really isn't in the same ball park. Looks like a cartoon, not obvious what everything is, graphical representation is...let's be kind and just say poor.

Goodhertz products have one of the best UIs on the market.kritikon wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 1:46 am

That's my opinion.

I also like the Goodhertz UI.

I like some of their UIs better than others...sometimes (like on VCME) the choice of what's a horizontal vs. vertical slider seems arbitrary. I love the DC19 delay but its UI is on the odder side!
I find the Trem, Pan, Wow, Tiltshift, Lossy & Megaverb UIs very elegant, and I love the frequent use of musical notes to depict rhythmic values, and things like low/hi filters being movable bars on a single slider.

The UI seems to be a visual metaphor for their music - quirky and eccentric, which either leaves you with a big smile on your face, or wondering what on earth did I just listen to.

I've had a chance to try VCME a bit, not on finished mixes but on an abstract midtempo track with 303s and Microtonic. I have all the TDR stuff - Kotelnikov/GE is one of my favorite alltime compressors, it's saved me so many times getting individual tracks and sometimes entire mixes to breathe just right with the tempo and density of the music. VCME reminds me more of u-he Presswerk, which is my other favorite single-band compressor.lunchcap wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 1:34 am Has anyone been able to try the VulfME? I´m curious as to how it compares to something like KotelnikovGE.
If you're familiar with the regular Vulf comp and Ghz Faraday limiter - those have a lot of color baked in, with both the detection and overall compression, which to my ears gets pretty "grabby" at higher GR. To my ears VCME can start out very clean, then goes all the way to quite saturated while still retaining detail and motion while gluing things together.
I hope they have accurate gain reduction readout/metering in the final release.

I think this is a good description of what we're going for. VCME doesn't get "stuck" for lack of a better word at high GR so you can push it harder and still retain some dynamics compared to a typical compressor.Winstontaneous wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 5:17 am To my ears VCME can start out very clean, then goes all the way to quite saturated while still retaining detail and motion while gluing things together.
Re metering: we're working on improvements there now in the VU meter (bigger needle, added ticks + labels) and GR history graph (adding more range options). I think we'll also add a "Max GR" readout like Faraday has. Please let us know if there's anything else you'd like to have.

How about a threshold slider or gain-compensated drive for the clipper?devkerr wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 4:37 pmI think this is a good description of what we're going for. We're adding a ton of metering for beta #2, which is the biggest request we've gotten from beta #1. Here's what we have so far:Kretch wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 8:48 am How can I see how much I’m clipping in GR please? Is there an option that I’m missing?
- - Precise VU meter (with labels/ticks) for Limiter GR, Drive %, Output, and Comp GR.
- Numeric readouts for Comp GR, Limiter GR, LUFS, and LRA.
- Added selectable range for the GR history graph: 10, 15, 25 dB (should be much easier to see what's happening at lower compression now).
