There were about 27 updates in those 5 years.

Most of the smaller updates included content like more internal sounds and chord banks. The major point releases included major feature updates as well as extra content.

If that was Izotope they'd be charging you at least for every point release.

There's no question in my mind that Scaler is something that Plugin Boutique are proud of and offers serious value for money.

It's a HUGE money maker for Plugin Boutique exactly because they've been so dedicated to improving it an making it arguably the best theory tool around.
It's not made by Plugin Boutique. Scaler Music is a separate company. Davide from Scaler Music wrote, in response to questions about Plugin Boutique's pricing, "We can’t control what other companies do display or how they display but they are our prices."

PLugin Boutique describe Scaler as an "in house" plugin.

"Late 2017 saw the launch of one of our most groundbreaking in-house plugins. As with previous releases, we’d tried to find a space where we weren’t stepping on the toes of our own developers, and with this niche we struck gold! After working with David Carbone, Eduoard Mainier and their team at SAMPLIFY for over a year on their concept for a music theory-based MIDI plugin, we released the comprehensive and inspirational Scaler.

Scaler’s drag-and-drop progression builder, scale detection and chord suggestion all went into making it one of our most successful plugins ever, and we didn’t stop there! These days, Scaler 2 features a guitar fret interface, audio scale detection, melodic expressions and loads more."

Back in 2021 Davide from Scaler made very clear that Plugin Boutique is a separate company that does not own Scaler:

"Scaler is 100% owned by Scaler Plugin. We are an independent development team. We have an exclusive arrangement to sell through PIB. They are a great team full of great people so the symbiosis works well."

And based on his recent posts, like the one I linked to before, that still seems to be the case.

It feels better that way.

I started this by saying it isn't a labor of love project. If it was all the updates would be free. Little did I know what I caused.

Please forgive me for the 5 or 10 minutes of your life each of you had to lose...

Peace

Got it! Thanks!

They are really milking the release. Marketing and promotional hype to eleven.

I don't think any product can live up to such hype. It's not a food replicator or some low cost energy source. It's a plugin to arrange chords.

Post

i would really like to see a "quantizer" mode...

i select which keys on the keyboard, and scaler key locks to them.
thats all..;)

good launch to you nonetheless;)

Post

if i understand it right, the last reveal video views something like what you're wishing for.
Even more, so you can use only the white keys to play in scale and select the scale, you want to play in, with the black keys.

Post

mm, not really (as far as i can tell)

there are lots of bells and whistles and its a wonderful playground.. but i cant see a "simple" quantizer mode...
- i select which keys (independent of known scales and chords) on the keyboard, and scaler keylocks to them...
thats all ;)

Good launch dear Davide and team=)

IMO It would be better if the chord guides extended throughout the piano roll vertically, like in Rapid Composer

I'm not sure how many plugin marketing campaigns you have witnessed, but releasing a couple of videos highlighting the features of an upcoming releasing isn't really hyping it in my book.

If you register an account at scalermusic.com, Scaler 3 is available to download as of now. It isn't available at PB yet, where I bought it, and PB hasn't sent out the serial, so you can only use the trial version for now.
