A complete redesign, Scaler 3 takes everything that made Scaler 2 the world's favourite music theory plugin and builds on it in ways you'd never imagined. Scaler 3 makes it easier to take new directions, solve musical puzzles, and improve your works-in-progress in completely new ways.
Scaler 3 is available as both a desktop application (VST/AU/AAX/Standalone) and an iPad app.
Scaler 3's three tabs split the plugin into its three core workflow stages: the Browse tab helps you pick chord sets, choose a scale that fits them, and to piece together your own chord progression with the aid of chord suggestions.
In the Create tab, Scaler has multiple ways to elaborate on your chord progression, search for substitutions, try out alternative voicings, find closely or more distantly related chords, and solve ways to modulate from one scale to another.
The Arrange tab helps you to play your progressions using multiple instrument parts and phrases, with a full mixer and VST/AU hosting to help along the way.

Drag and drop chords to build a progression. Choose from hundreds of chord sets categorised by artist and mood, and Scaler will be able to tell you which parent scales fit well with those chords, allowing you to audition an overarching feel for your music. Scaler can also detect audio and MIDI and work out what scales best fit with it.
Need a suggestion? If you're stuck building a progression, ask Scaler to suggest chords that will work next or in between two existing chords – there's no AI, just solid music theory.
Scaler's Create page houses many more ways to inspire new ideas, solve musical puzzles, and give you new directions.
It's not just chords – basslines, melodies, arpeggios and strums are available as 'Motions', and with Voice Grouping options, you can keep the range of notes uniform or experiment with drop voicings.
In the interactive Circle of Fifths and the innovative Explore Page, you can introduce new variety into a sequence of chords, exploring new voicings, chord substitutions and suggestions to find new directions.
The Colors and Sketch pages offer ways to compare and contrast chord progressions and different Motions to play them, bolstering your creativity and helping you to flesh out ideas quickly.
Scaler 3 now hosts VST/AU plugin instruments and effects, so you can try out new chords in your favourite synth or sampled instrument, and process it with creative effects right within Scaler.
Multitrack operation means that your chord progression can be played by multiple instruments (and plugins) at once, each taking its notes from a different track and performance, but all singing to the same chord progression.
With MIDI modifiers, you can customise any motion (bassline, melody, arpeggio and strum), and create your own. Note Properties also let you edit performances in broad terms like Density, Length and Transpose.
100s of Chord Sets and Scales categorised by mood, artist and genre. Scaler 3 greatly expands the number of chord sets and makes them easier to work with.
Build Chord Progressions using the sequencer and get suggestions based on your currently selected chords.
Play your favourite instruments with VST/AU Plugin Hosting, including effects too.
With powerful Detection of MIDI and audio, Scaler can determine what key and scale you're in and suggest chords that match your music.
Standalone mode for working on your desktop computer without needing a DAW.
Huge library of Motions lets you play chords as melodies, arpeggios, basslines and strums, and to modify them using the piano roll editor and global Note Properties.
Check the Circle of Fifths to find nearby chord substitutions and their extensions.
Solve your modulation puzzles in five ways: Progression, Secondary Scale, Modal Interchange, Mediants, Neo-Riemannian.
Experiment with Voice Grouping to keep your chords within a certain range or apply drop voicings, guitar voicing and more.
50 Internal Sounds to play your inputs, chords and progressions, or load VST/AU instrument plugins.
Use Bind to Keyboard to control chord playback with notes, for one-finger chords, arpeggios and more.
Discover new chord expressions – chord substitutions, inversions, variations, voicings and extensions – in the Colors page.
Line up seven progressions with different motions to compare in the Sketch Pad page.

Great tool to help build theory knowledge and to spark new ideas. I'm still learning the tool, but it is very well put together.
