I use to use SoundSource for this but ever since the switch to ARK, its been really problematic on Sonoma and above (too much latency, especially when working with video).
Now im use Patchwork standalone and routing my system audio (using Blackhole) through it so i can use Goodhertz Canopener and Morphit for headphone EQ correction. Everything is working good but i do get some clicks and pops under very little load. Buffer is set to 128. Anything over that and i start to noticed the latency when working to video.
When Soundsource was working good on Ventura. Id get zero clicks and pops.
Just curious if you guys have suggestion / tips here? Any info is appreciated!

Hi,
Unfortunately I don't know much about Blackhole and the way it interacts with the system. Do you ever get CPU spikes in PatchWork when you get those clicks? (you can see these with the CPU meter at the bottom right getting orange or red).
BTW are you using an Apple silicon or Intel machine? I don't know if Blackhole has been specifically updated to Apple Silicon but Apple now relies on specific threading schemes for audio, and you may get dropouts even under very low CPU load if the entire audio processing chain does not conform to this new system.

Because Patchwork is in the background, i haven't monitored to see if their is CPU spikes happening within the plugin. The clicks and pops are really random so it would be a bit hard to capture the CPU meter when working to video.Blue Cat Audio wrote: Sat Mar 22, 2025 6:51 am Hi,

Blackhole is just a way to capture the system audio and run it through Patchwork. If i remember correctly, i was getting the same symptoms when using Pro Tools Bridge I/O to do this. Ill double check that.
Im on apple silicon M1 mac studio, running the latest version of Sonoma.

If you are doing video, you are probably hitting the CPU quite hard, that could explain the problem. Also if they haven't updated their drivers with the new audio priority system that will definitely not work well under high CPU load.
