Lately I’ve been having issues with outboard gear, and the signs seem to be pointing to USB issues. I had this machine built for me from a local computer store chain, and it’s generally been good. My mother board is a ROG STRIX Z590-E gaming wi-fi and processor is a i9-11900k @ 3.5 ghz.

Any suggestions? I’ve never updated the bios, and I’m not sure how to even go about it. I don’t want to screw it up.

I also recommend you do some tweaks :tu:

IF still have problems, try to use a different USB cable and motherboard USB port.

IF still have problems, try to re-seat the CPU.

IF still have problems, try to do a clean Windows installation.
I prefer to install from a de-bloated installation ISO
(Do not disable UAC and do not enable WDAC policy!)

How it is here and MY autounattend.xml you can import to use as a starting point.

Suggestion: let that computer store solve it under warranty.

Yeah, either pop in store and ask or I suspect their support line would likely be happy to talk you through it, rather than risk a return due to error.

Stuff will randomly just not load up during boot. Sometimes it's my UPS, sometimes my Melbourne Instruments Nina. Every now and then I get a message saying my Analog Four and RYTM aren't giving accurate latency readings, etc. My MOTU Micro Express no longer works properly, but that could just be because it's very old.

I am glad to help.
BTW, Asus BIOS flashback is failsafe, no need to worry as you can always
repeat is something goes wrong.

Thanks. I keep everything connected to a UPS, so it should be OK.

If you use hubs, I suppose it can depend on what units are shared on which ports. Have you added additional USB connected units recently?

Not USB C, but yeah, I have to use two hubs to get all the hardware synths hooked up. I'm thinking of maybe buying a USB card so that I can go direct with everything and no more hubs. Nothing's changed recently, though.

I was going to recommend this.

Also, try unplugging a couple of the units (from the UPS) and see what happens...

Only the computer is plugged into the UPS, as the rest of it can experience a power outage with no ill effects. They’re just plugged into a surge protector/power conditioner.

You are welcome.
Did you manage to fix it? What was the solution?

I was finishing up a big project, and then away this week, but I’m going to dig in to it Monday.
