Software Hoarding

I'm not interested in capturing the entirety of what I/we do for any random who asks. How well I can (or can't) play isn't of interest to me, so I'm hardly going to lay it out for anyone else. It ceased to be a relevant skill for me 40 years ago, once I had enough sequencing power that I no longer had to play two parts whilst singing to get the song out. I save the detail for interviews (and this shithole, of course).

I used to refer to myself as a composer. Now THAT is pretentious. To my defence, I was being paid to do it (write music; not call myself a composer) but I was young and stupid. Now that I'm old but still stupid, I don't call myself anything except being a bit sh*t.

Hoarding or inordinate collecting comes from a foundational level type of corruption within human beings: greed or covetousness. Which in themselves are another form of idolatry - and idolatry itself is connected to pride/vanity/haughtiness/snobbishness/emptiness/futility.felis wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 5:30 pm Hadn't thought of it that way before, but I guess that's what I (and many others) have been doing.
Got so much software that if it was all hardware, I'd have to store it in a warehouse.
If I had it all in my house, I wouldn't be able to move around,
and most of it would be buried and dusty.
Getting software sometimes seems more important than actually using it.
Not looking for solutions, just looking at it with a different perspective.
The subject touches on the most important questions regarding the human condition. The corruption inherent within every person, and what they try to fix that corruption with, what they try to fill that void or lack with. Some people turn to this, others to that. If you look at the world through that understanding, you'll very quickly be able to see how, where and why anyone is spiritually sick (imbalanced) and immature. Which leads to the question of: what is the solution, the cure, and the path to maturity. So that one no longer remains a slave to things which harm them.

Who's taste are we talking about here? Perhaps give us an example of what taste is.Hyperbole wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 2:23 pm I "look down on" (actually, loathe/despise/revile) self-important people who are objectively bad at what they do by any measure of taste, as is reflected in the utter shite they "produce." Only other people with said lack of taste pretend to like their "output" (which can't be called "art" without abusing the English language). This is a particularly ridiculous form of virtue signaling to their fellow talentless, fraudster friends.
I dunno man. Seems like you need to listen to more dubstep.

software is a tool that allows us to complete a given task.
social media is full of tools that distract us from a given task.

True that. I ultimately don't care what anyone calls themselves (unless they're objectively crap at what they say they are), but calling myself any of those things feels a little arrogant. My English side screams at me if I start having too high of an opinion of myself._leras wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 4:34 amWhy would anyone care if anyone described themselves as any of these?razornaut wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:42 pm I used to refer to myself as a composer. I joke about it but software and social media are two forms of the same problem — giving attention away. Attention is the difference between success & failure. We seek others opinions & software crutches as we lose confidence in our own artistic judgment.
