Does anyone still use Synth1?

I have found that this only crashes when Unison is NOT lit up.
Is it definitely a plugin bug or could it be fixable in MuLab?
This has such a vast and great library, it would be a shame to ditch it.
I'll contact the dev, if he's still available.

I sent a request, just have to wait and see, but I don't think it's likely to get fixed.

Doesn't seem to crash in other hosts at all...
Contacting the Synth1 dev is futile, guy is a hermit.

@sl23, what exactly are reproduction steps, here?
EDIT: I see it now.

It crashes on playing more than one note when polyphony is on or unison off.
Ah well worth a try!

The Mac version has always been one big bug. It sounds good when it works, though.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Did he ever release the source code?
Because he's not going to update it.
Be a dude, set it free.

Nope, he did not.

I have tried over a dozen other hosts and none of them have any of these issues with Synth1, so yes this points to something definitely being done differently/incorrectly/out of expected (and badly/not documented in VST2 SDK) order in MuLAB, unfortunately... I just wish I could figure out what exactly is different.

The Roland VST3 plugs don't work in MuLab, while they do work in other hosts.
However it's formaly confirmed by Steinberg that the issue is on Roland's side.
Something anyone can double-check as the Roland plugins do not pass the VST3 validator.
Conclusion: The fact that a plug works in other hosts but not in MuLab does not prove the issue is in MuLab.
Zooming out from that: I wish i could get in contact with the Synth1 plug dev about this crash inside Synth1. I'm sure it could be solved very quickly as the issue is very repeatable. He just needs to repeat the issue in debug mode so he can see at what code line in Synth1 the crash occurs.

I also wish we could receive any sort of reply from Toda-san, because we would have asked him to open source the synth, there so many things that could be done with it to bring it to 21st century... But it is increasingly unlikely to happen as the guy is completely unavailable. The most famous freeware synth out there can be considered abandonware now.
Also - is this really a crash? The plugin doesn't crash, it just stops producing audio in this particular case.
What could it possibly be that makes it work in ALL the other hosts just fine?

From the last test i remember it's indeed a crash.
A crash deep inside the Synth1 code, like 10 functions deep, starting from processReplacing.
Only occurring in the 64 bit version when playing more than 1 polyphone.
IIRC.
