Grammy nominated AND producer of the year nominee. Guess we can add her to the list of producers/musicians who are still doing it wrong? 😂
Who needs instruments, effects pedals, drum machines etc when we have computers right?! RIGHT?! 😂
As soon as she says the Juno 106 is capable of so many different sounds, she reveals that she has no idea what she’s talking about. The “Prophet 10 is like a Prophet 5 with some extra stuff” really nails the point down. I couldn’t spend 10 minutes alone with her.
I mean she’s not wrong in either example. If you’re doing pop funk r&b genres the Juno 106 is quite versatile. Been used on countless hits modern and old in many different ways.

The prophet 5 can also be upgraded to a prophet 10, so the “additional cool stuff” she mentions is technically correct as well (albeit a simplified explanation).

If you couldn’t spend 10 minutes alone with a super talented grammy nominated AND producer of the year candidate, then you may want to look in the mirror because that says everything about you and nothing about her. And FYI some girls talk this way it’s just how some are in case you aren’t familiar with them :tu:

Nice video... glad to see her mentioning some of the greats including p-funk :tu:

Oh definitely!

BTW I finally ordered the analog rhythm mk2 as I found a pretty good deal online. Got any tips for a first time Elektron user?! Do you use the overbridge plugin or just record straight into your DAW/interface? I’ve been watching tons of MK2 videos in anticipation of receiving it this week lol.

Two tips:
1 - Print out the Rytm manual. And put the pages with all the button combos next to the machine. I found that the best way to learn them and develop muscle memory.

2 - Treat the Rytm as an instrument. And like any real instrument, it will take some time to learn it well and find ones own voice with it.

I don't use Overbridge and I record to audio. I use the performance controls. Sometimes I like to stop and start playback and its timing is good enough that it works. I also play and/or p-lock the distortion/compressor combo and all sorts of amazing grungy tones come out. It's organic, nuanced and in those instances, entirely non-repeatable.

I bailed @2:58, after she said "like" 25 (that's t.w.e.n.t.y-f.i.v.e) times in under three minutes!
Oh, you should see when my 12 year old gets together with her friends. They go into "like seizures," where they start sentences, "like, like, like, like... you know?"

Oh, I'm aware. I avoid people like that. They are dull and rarely produce anything marginally interesting. I don't know her or her music, but I'd be shocked if it had any depth to it.

OK, I just checked out two of her tracks. Terrible. Poorly produced and lacking any substance at all. How does someone like her become famous? The mind boggles.

Technically she's right. It's capable of so many different sounds, just that most of them are very basic, dull and obvious. The thing that was so damning was that she likes p-funk. That's so, like unforgivable. Country would give her more credibility, like even a bit of Western maybe, like even both at the same time. P-funk, Moogs, she has no taste, pffft. Likes a bit of hw though, so she has some redeeming features. And her studio is so tidy. Unnaturally so, I'd say. A bit suspicious IMO. That's, like a lady thing? What's the point of a studio where you can find things and don't trip over anything? I bet it even smells nice :nutter:

What was hilarious was when she played the Juno it had the absolute most generic Juno patch ever. It was like Roland held a contest for who can create the most generic Juno synth patch in history and after 10,000 entries she won and got the free three months of Roland Cloud and a lifetime key for the 303

But according to her it has an LFO so it sounds really vintage and warm

Regarding the Juno. My 15 year old grandson always makes a beeline for my Juno 6 to play. He is currently grade 6 piano, but loves all types of music, especially 80's synth stuff. The fact that the Juno is single Osc and no presets does not seem to bother him.

Damn, now I'm not sure what to do.
Should I use hardware, or software?

Don't use any. They are both terrible 😔
software is a tool that allows us to complete a given task.
social media is full of tools that distract us from a given task.

Thanks! Yeah I just got it in today and messing around with the drums and sequencer instantly sparked some ideas (although I have zero clue what I'm really doing with it yet LOL)

Workflow seems intuitive but something to learn for sure. The compressor/distortion seems to make everything come alive. Definitely about to get lost for hours just playing with this thing lol.

Do you ever use it just as an analog synth for bass or leads? Seems to me possibilities can go beyond just a analog drum machine? :hyper:
