Tracktion Waveform Pro cannot handle 32 bit audio?

I imported 32 bit, 96 Khz audio wave file into TWP, both on Windows OS and Linux and it crashes the program. I also have Reaper, and can import / edit 32 bit audio files, no problemo on it. But Tracktion Waveform is out for the count. I guess this is a current limitation or is there some tweakage required...?

To be honest, I had either never tried to load a 32/96 WAV file or it worked just fine and I didn't really need to think about it. So I created a 5-minute WAV file in GoldWave with the attributes "IEEE float signed 32 bit stereo". I don't understand all of those details but since everything I see out there that talks about 32 bit also mentions float, I chose "IEEE float" over the other option, which is "PCM" and presumably not float.

Waveform Pro (on Windows 10) was slow to create the visual render of the file, but it didn't crash.

Some guesses I have...

1. It may have to do with specific details of the WAV file - things I don't even understand well enough to point at, like "PCM" and "IEEE" and "signed". Maybe try to change those details somehow in an audio editor before trying again.

2. It may have to do with the file size. Big files might be overwhelming. You can try to make things easier for Waveform by changing (turning off) the first two settings of Settings -> Appearance -> Clips

3. Settings -> General -> Editing -> Detect tempo of imported audio files : TURN IT OFF! It tries to find the tempo of any file you import and then set it to match your Edit. This one feature being on by default (and not telling you that it's doing it) has resulted in a lot of help requests here.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I always render internally at 32 bit and drag those files between projects, no problems. Generally those will be smaller files. Higher sample rates don't really play nice for me, and my PC is decent. You can try switching on 'use proxy file' in the audio clip's control panel, although that slows down editing as every change will be processed and redrawn. I take it your interface and Waveform are set to 96k already...

Therein resides the culprit! The CPU no longer goes nutz and paralyze the program. I was just dropping in some dialog and things went sideways. Yeah, I do not want tempo detected. Maybe some people do, I don't...at this time.

Thank you! You have now restored my faith in TWP!
