Exactly my point...you use a daw that is cumbersome to freeze tracks on.

Probably, but I think Ableton Live is a better option for freezing, and 2 sec is long.

Now, speaking out loud, I wonder what you can render that only takes 2 sec ... a loop ? I dont work with loops but with VSTi, mainly ( like 95 % ).
And I do write long scores ( 20 min+ ) without silence and I'm covering a lot of different soundscapes, so I need to save my time and have all my midi notes at reach ...

- I guess latency of 3ms will hold you back 3ms, yes, these crappy computers of today

3 ms is fine, it still allows for an intuitive playing style ... above that and you spend too much time fixing notes in Midi editors ...

All graphics cards I had have two ports to extend for dual monitors.

Who said I'm not using multiple monitors ? I just said I want to go with just one huuuge one, the Samsung ... right now I'm already using 2 screens : a 5K screen ( that has more useable space than your 2 screens ... ) and an old one for the mixer.

I could run 32 samples, but I am not in such rush as you are...

You mainly have different requirements than me, music wise.
And you wrongly assumed I didnt know about Cakewalk, freezing and the fun of bouncing tracks.

But went Cakewalk Pro 3.0 1989...and it keeps bouncing back....

For me dual monitors is just being relieved of overlapping things like mixer and track view. It's most annoying thing there is.

Steinberg was indeed the publisher of Cubase ... ( it still is ).

Cakewalk version 3.0 was in 1991 ... I remember very well when I tried it : at that time, I didnt think it was made for long scoring ... the Sonar "flavor" arrived much later, in 2004, but I thought the interface was still not that appealing/inspiring ...

In 1999, I had switched to the duo Cubase / FL Studio ( called Fruityloops back then ) .

Software itself, was called Steinberg alone, but memory is such a volatile thing.

I lived in Stocholm entire 80's and got Cakewalk 3, and moving to Gothenburg 1990.

You think of Windows 3 that came 1991, and Cakewalk for windows 1.0 was release.

I also later upgraded to v1.25. But then I started my business 1991 and music were in the back seat for many years and got hdd Fostex portastudio 2000 and for a couple of years onward.

Indeed. I’ve tried the exact same hardware (inc. the Babyface interface) and software on MacOS and Windows, within days of each other, and it turns out MacOS had lower latency, no matter the settings and usage.

What are the pros and cons of 1 very large monitor (like Samsung Odyssey G9) vs 2x 32" 4k or 3x 1080p/1440p ? I'm thinking if DAW is only think you use, then 1 big monitor might have some edge, but if you do any bit of gaming, it's easier to do full screen/borderless with multi monitor setup, and you can also connect game consoles to "secondary" monitors. I think theoretically you maybe could do something like that with 1 big monitor if there's some "virtual monitor" software that lets you run multiple inputs simultaneously (so you can dedicate one region of the monitor for your DAW, other for your game console or something), but it's not something I've seen covered very much. Basically being able to connect multiple sources, if that's something you want/need, gives edge to multiple monitor setup?

We did this back in the day and Win7 was way ahead of OSX, where OSX would just not play anything back, Win7 would and with higher count of plugins too.

Might be better on mac these days but ... not sure. Old DAWBenches also showed this clearly.

Call me cynical but I rate the chance that this turns out true or even significant near zero.
