I suppose those who're into SynthWave won't be bothered.

I notice this with most plugin emulations. They hold on until you start moving things around, messing with the filter etc...
It seems to me like the "resolution" of the filters in plugins is "smaller" if this makes any sense. It's like...it's skipping some dots, as if the bit depth is lower.
Plugin manufacturers wanna optimize CPU so they cut corners, and it seems to me they focus on the filter specifically to save up CPU, which in return degrades the fidelity and as a result the original intent of making a convincing emulation is being lost.
That might be the case with emulations of analog filters. But the JP8000 already has a fairly harsh, grainy digital filter sound. So even if Arturia completely nailed it, the filter would still sound harsh by today's standards. I think what you are hearing just is the gritty digital sound of the JP8000. There is a reason I returned mine after two weeks in 1997.
Exactly. Some of my friends had JP-8000 - they said they couldn't get anything out of it. But they're into 80s and 70s synths, so JP is not their thing.
Arutira got there 99%, so I'm really into 8000 V... Virtual studio is now complete. :tu:
Last time I was this thrilled was the release of Spire long ago :D

I knew nothing about the original, but this is fun to play with. It's a strange state of affairs when we already have synths with every synthesis option, and on top of that wavetables of every permutation of modulated waveforms, basically everything from every angle. But this has limited options that make for a nice workflow... and a supersaw oscillator limited to mono, which is near unthinkable in 2025. So is that a large part of the nostalgia and signature sound, the inability to spread the supersaw and instead having to use chorus to widen the stereo field? I read a while back that the supersaw detune ratio/proportions are specific, i.e. not linear. But of course most synths have many options to control that parameter.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Out of hundreds, or even thousands, these are the only instruments which make me want to play music and say something. Multipoly and Jup-8000 V are great additions, particularly Jup-8000 V. This has been missing. :D
In fact, I'm cutting out Multipoly for now. I didn't have any deep moments with it.
So it's only five: Spire, Diva, Triton/Extreme, Jup-8000 V and JD-800. :o
This makes setting up laptop for music production/live performance very, very easy!
DAW + 5 VSTis. Use DAW/synth fx whenever possible. Use Triton percussion whenever possible.
That's it :tu:

I read somewhere that this does not include the original presets, which is fine, but it makes me wonder if it can load patches exported (e.g., sysex) from the hardware JPs? I assume no, but IMO that should’ve been a feature if it’s not.

It doesn’t make sense to exclude sysex capability for these synths so that people can’t import their old sounds. I’m puzzled as to why they did so for this particular one.

I admire your restraint. Between synths, samplers, and effects, I must have at least 200 (and probably closer to 300) plugins installed on my laptop. And then there is over a terabyte of data files. It’s equal parts absurd and insane.

The plugins I use most often (listed alphabetically) are D-50, Diva, Dune, Groove Agent, HALion, Kontakt, Microwave 1, multi/poly, Omnisphere, opsix, OsTIrus, Spire, Triaz, Xenia, and Zebra for synth/sampler/drum plugins. And then the Fabfilter Total Bundle, Arturia FX Collection, and Valhalla reverbs and delays. Everything else is mostly a distraction. Even my “required” plugins are more than what most people would consider necessary. To that I would say, “progress, not perfection.”

Diva already has the jp-8000 OSC though so seems you could shorten that list even more.

What a great sounding instrument.
Will upgrade my V X to V 11 at some point by $ 199 or less, although
don’t care the other included stuff too much.

It's not about technical stuff, it's about emotion which the synth draws out of you.
Monopoly sounds great, but didn't click with me... Maybe in the future.

I like Jup-8000 V because you can quickly make great sounds from scratch. Just like Spire.
Diva is a bit more complicated, but sounds brilliant.
Korg Triton is fascinating because it can replace Omnisphere with its tiny 300MB installation.

So I think that's the best path... powerful laptop, 5 VSTis, and see what happens :D

REALLY SHOWS THE CHARACTER OF THIS SYNTH!
It doesn't matter if it's not 100% emulation. It's just great synth.

I hope sound designers will realize it can do much more than trance. :D

This demo shows how the JP8000 (and the Virus TI) pretty much defined the sound of Trance. However, Trance has run its course and sounds increasingly cheesy, IMO. Because the Virus TI is a more powerful and versatile synth than the JP8000, it's still relevant (if you steer clear of the big, anthemic "Trance leads" and stereotypical plucks). The JP8000 seems like more of a one-trick pony. Sure, it can do other types of sounds. But there are better options for these other sounds, IMO.

This is super exciting. This is the ultimate supersaw sound. Whatever they did to create this was tuned for a really great sound. Roland had some pretty juicy digital filters. Now just need to work out the best value way to get hold of it.

The Virus never was as good as this, and while modern supersaws can be good, but do not have the character this had.

So strange it's taken until now to get a decent version of this.

Compared to Spire, it doesn't sound that good in my opinion. Personally, I would prefer Korg Multi/Poly over JUP-8kV.... way more versatile.
