Was great seeing Z3 and the uhbiks at sb25. The latter were almost stock plugins for me before I changed to an ARM mac so am looking very forward to getting them back

Hah, would have loved to put a face to the name. Next time let me know when you're there.suthnear wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 3:16 pm Was great seeing Z3 and the uhbiks at sb25. The latter were almost stock plugins for me before I changed to an ARM mac so am looking very forward to getting them back

Looks like Synthanathomy is slowly dripping out the SB news day by day.
Really looking forward to their video on Z3.

They obviously made an error in their priorities as the Z3 video should have been top of the list.DrGonzo wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 2:07 am Looks like Synthanathomy is slowly dripping out the SB news day by day.

Question: Will Zebra 3 get macros again (and XY performance Pads based on them?). I haven't seen such a thing in the Zebra 3 Alpha (but may have missed it).
I'm not sure how much I really would need the XY, but with XY pads, I see a value that there's some standard thinking that the neutral position of a macro is in 50% position. Maybe a small improvement over Zebra 2 would be to give each macro knob its own custom name, not just the XY Pad where you then use a label and convention to explain what the 2 macros do?

I saw the Zebra 3 demo at Superbooth and it looked amazing! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to talk with Urs, but I came back with an amazing u-he faceplate for my Eurorack setup, and I have just purchased the CVilization module
By the way, in french the word "two" is translated into "deux". So I started pronouncing Cen2rion as "Cen Deux Rion - Cendrillon", instead of the roman commander, which means "Cinderella"

XYs are a complicated topic. We spent more years on setting up XYs for Zebra2 and Hive preset banks than it took to make those banks. That is despite both to some degree having automated setup.Fannon wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 5:14 am Question: Will Zebra 3 get macros again (and XY performance Pads based on them?). Many sound designers reject setting up macros. The time/price per preset goes up significantly, and often someone else (a poor coworker) has to go through the draining act of setting them up.
Hence, for now, there will be no XYs or macro controls.
We have an idea that is more digestible to sound designers and that gets us half way there. We will expand the MIDI A/B controllers to A/B/C/D, and add on-UI-control over them. We will require each factory preset (or bank in our shop) to be set up with useful modulation on all 4 of these. So if we ever bring back like 8 macros or 4 XYs, half of them will already be set up to mirror MIDI A/B/C/D.

And many users never even touch them.Urs wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 9:56 am Many sound designers reject setting up macros. The time/price per preset goes up significantly, and often someone else (a poor coworker) has to go through the draining act of setting them up.

I'm actually surprised. I figured the macros or "easy controls" was something sound designers had fun using. For live setups, it also enables playful results for performers and keyboardist. But if you see that nobody is really using them, then it's more practical to leave them out.
Zebra2 has loads of features, but its not required for every one of them to transition over, especially if users aren't actually using them and you guys have the data to back it up.

I do think a lot of people are using them. Particularly if they know they're set up well, as we always hope to achieve.Shiek927 wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 2:13 pm I'm actually surprised. The effort to do so however is incredible. We won't have the resources to do this if we want to release anything this year.
Once released, we'll see what the feedback is. We might even consider AI to help with some kind of automatic setup, if that makes XYs more viable. It's just that at this time I see XYs as a major obstacle to a nice and diverse factory library, and thus a release-worthy product.
