Slave Waveform To External Midi Device Clock?

Is there a way to slave Waveform so it's running off an external device clock? This way I can set a midi track up in Waveform to record, hit the record button, but nothing should happen until I start my external device. This way if I have a synth with a recorded sequence or running an arpeggio, I can feed the data in sync into Waveform.
I see the MTC button, as well as the "Respond to midi machine control from device" under the SYNC button, but activating one or both of these does not put Waveform into a slaved mode.
So is this possible in Waveform? I'd be surprised (and pretty disappointed) if it isn't.
Thanks for any info on this.

According the https://assets.tracktion.com/pdf/2024/w ... e-2024.pdf
With MTC enabled, Waveform will chase sync to incoming MIDI Time Code. Unless you are still syncing
to tape or hardware sequencers, leave MTC off.

Yes I know, I read that too, but that doesn't work. When I hit record, Waveform just takes off like it normally does. It should be on standby until it receives a clock signal from the external device.
That's what I don't understand. At first I though it was because I was working with Waveform Free, but then I upgraded to Waveform Full on a special offer, and it's still the same.

It’s far better to go the other route and get something like the Nome II and sync it via audio to that device, which then generates the clock signal.
Most DAWs cannot sync to an external MIDI clock.

Dude, EVERY DAW I've ever worked with can slave to an external clock, Cakewalk, Reaper, Cubase, etc. The only DAW so far that I can't do that with is Waveform.

(Btw it’s a new feature in cubase within the last year or two)
