Hi,

I must be missing something obvious because I cannot figure out how to record audio into Tracktion. I read the manual, but can't seem to record anything audio. I think I have things setup right since I can hear .wav files that I drag into a track. I can send the audio to a second track, and see the meters light up. But I press record on a track, and it records silence. I've rewired up to Live 4 too, and can hear and see the output of Live, but same thing.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

You should see your available audio inputs in an arrow(s) on the left side of the screen. Drag this arrow little bit to the right, so that it points to some track.

Now the recording shoud have more effect. If you don't have an arrow saying smthg like "Audio Input L-R", you hae to go to the settings tab and fix things.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for the quick reply...

I already tried that, which is why I'm confused. My soundcard that I have enabled in settings shows up as a little green arrow, and I've pointed it at the track I'd like to record in. When I press record, the track looks like it's recording, but there's no sound nor wave. I must be overlooking something obvious, but what?

(I myself spent some time wondering why nothing is recorded when the arrow was disconnected)

Hmmm... what's the soundcard you're using? You might have to enable audio inputs from the soundcard's soft mixer.

first make sure that you are trying to record from your audio input not a midi input

then click the audio inptu icon, and check that the trigger level value (properties panel at teh bottom fo teh screen) is set to -inf...

In Tracktion under settings, I have the Realtek AC97 enabled for in/out. This is what shows up on the green arrow which I aim at a track for recording. When I hit record, no audio. I have the Realtek AC97 chosen under Live 4 and have no problems recording audio there.

I did notice that in Tracktion when I try the auto-detect test for the Realtek, it couldn't detect the test signal.

I can also drag a .wav file into a track, add effects, and then render it fine. Though I can send the audio from one track to another, it won't record on the new track.

Any thoughts?

click the input block (the bit you connect to the track), and look at the properties panel at the bottom. make sure END-TO-END is enabled for the device and on the buttons by the master level.

any input to the device should cause the level meter on that properties panel to move. if it does not, then tracktion simply is not recieving audio from that device. perhaps you have another program stealing the driver? perhaps you have the wrong driver type selected in tracktion's settings page? i'm not sure what might help, but you want to firstly find out for certain whether or not tracktion can see the signal.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
