Oh yeah? Tell me more!

KVR, you never disappoint!
Lol, you people that constantly feel the need to be snide about music software

You going through a divorce or something?
I wasn't being snide about music software.

jamcat wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 10:46 am Fuse Audio Labs are pretty good. I would put them in the same class as the ones you mentioned (except for Primavera which I rate a cut above all else.) I would also include UAD Pure Plate and Arturia Rev PLATE-140 (but not Rev SPRING-636, which I’m not too impressed with.)

The thing about all of these plate and spring reverbs is they each have a very particular unique sound all their own, and any of them could be the perfect reverb for one part in one song, or it could sound like garbage. And which one is the one that works will vary from song to song, while the one that worked last time will be trash next time.

The one exception here is one not mentioned: UVI Plate, which like Primavera, is a pure physical model. UVI Plate is so versatile that you should always be able to dial in something that sounds good on any source material. But finding the right sound with it may take you longer than finding the right plate reverb amongst the aforementioned list of plugins.
So I bought Fuse VREV-140, VREV-305 and VREV-63 and also got the free VREV-666. The first three sound good, but surprisingly I like the 140 the least. Its trail has a quite distinct order of events that repeats exactly the same each time. I don't know if a physical plate reverb can behave like this, too, or if they will have slight variations; in any case, this one sounds a bit too lifeless for me. 305 and 63 also don't show any hit-to-hit variation but don't have that distinct sequence and generally sound more realistic and lively to me. Ironically the 63 which is meant to sound crappy is the only one with obvious continuous modulation.

Still liking Little Plate (with or without the modulation switch) and Primavera the most. *If* technically they are static, too, my ear doesn't perceive it as such.
Yeah, I had not tried Fuse Audio VREV-140 at the time. The Fuse Audio Labs spring reverbs are pretty good, especially for hybrid convolution, which were what I was primarily talking about, but after comparing VREV-140 to some other EMT-140 models later, I found it is nowhere near the quality of the likes of UAD Pure Plate and Arturia Rev PLATE-140, or the UVI Plate 140 preset, which is the best of all.

So for springs, yes to Fuse Audio Labs and no to Arturia.
For plates, no to Fuse Audio Labs and yes to Arturia.

Well, the problem is I really like the expensive ones. So I have to exercise great patients for this, as I am a reverb junkie with a 20 year old Scotch taste, but cheep beer budget.

So for example, The BBC Air Studio Reverb looks to be a lot of fun, but at $349 msrp, I'm very reluctant. Even at Black Friday prices of say %50 off, still make that reverb @$175.

I'm really liking the Pro-R2 though. I can load impulses, which is kinda like getting a new reverb, so kind of a redeeming quality for my RAS (Reverb Acquisition Syndrome)
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

The Spitfire Air Studio reverb (nothing to do with BBC) is available as a much cheaper 'Essential' version, which is the same but without the insane levels of tweakery. I got it in a sale and it does sound great on orchestral stuff.

Yeah,

I got BBCSO Pro, so I was eying the Air Studios for that particular Orchestral situation. I may go with the Essential version, just not now

So they're also heavy then - hope they pay you well...

I don't know what everyone says but Ableton's stock Reverbs do the job for me most of the time. I'm happy with the results.

Logic Pro QRS Reverb is quite good.

I have quite a few reverbs so I rarely buy any now. BUT I do test just about everything new that I find out about, and my latest test was ADPTR Utopia, which I originally ignored for some reason, maybe I thought it was a convolution reverb. Anyway for synthetic reverb for synths and effects on drum loops etc, it's awesome.

Then I just saw the new one from Sonic Academy, VELA and I've yet to test it, but looks pretty good too.

I get by 99% of the time with the Valhalla stuff and then host reverb. I use altiverb for scoring jobs as well combined with VSS. I have lots of other reverbs as well but I don't really use them often.

Bigsky wasn't really useful enough to me to purchase. In general I find my other reverbs cover most of what I'd get from Bigsky, but I didn't give it a really extensive demo, just a quick check and I decided I didn't really like what I was hearing.

My other reverbs right now are mostly Tai Chi and Black Hole Immersive. Utopia will probably be added.

I wondered about BigSky. Sounds like the HW is well-loved but I wonder if it brings anything as a plugin I truly need. We have so many great reverbs these days I haven't even demoed that one because of the price. Agree that Tai Chi is fantastic and it keeps getting new features since I bought it a couple of years ago. I could easily get by with just the Liquidsonics/Reverb Foundry offerings.
