It’s pretty great.

Waymaker now at $50. As they say: He who hesitates misses the Waymake sale.
A $100 bundle offer would motivate me to buy.

I liked the Waymaker demo a lot but in the end decided against it.
Somehow I got wary of piling up all those individual plugins that all do great things but stay in their boxes.
Even though Waymaker is semi-modular in a way, it still has a lot of limitations and a LOT of GUI, since it's made for touchdevices first, so no right mouse menus and everything rather big and a bit tedious with a mouse/tablet.
ATM I'm more interested in open systems like Tidal Cycles, PlugData or real modular systems.

Haven't found the real sweetspot yet though, so will keep looking.

I'm the total opposite.

I went from open modular systems like m4l, Reaktor etc. to more bespoke designs.

The problem with open ended systems is that they kind of end up nowhere. There's no design language, no workflow, no cohesion, no bespoke UIs.

So you end up with even more fragmented tools.

It's like when some plugin comes out and someone says "I could replicate that with a 30 plugin chain in my DAW".

I mean you could, but who the hell has time for that?

Waymaker, HY sequencers, Scaler (when it works), Stepic etc. will always do what they do far better than anything I could cobble together.

Post

Hehehe - yeah, that's why there are so many tools :-)

Speaking of that: I haven't seen "benny" mentioned here: https://playbenny.com
It's a modular live system based on Max (but works with the demo) and contains a lot of sequencers, Midi tools, synths and effects, also loads VSTs and has a really interesting layout and workflow.
Many solutions I've never seen anywhere else.

Might be interesting for some people here.

Cheers,

Tom

I bought super scale to give it a go as it seemed interesting with the LFOs.

I'm not crazy about the look of the UI or some of its functionality eg for LFO waveforms/harmony channel there are no drop-downs and there doesn't seem to be a decrement option no matter what I press, so I have to cycle the entire lot if I overshoot, which is easy done when having to click-cycle to find the desired option.

The force-to-scale side of it works as expected.

The harmony notes are a nice idea and being able to LFO them is interesting, but each LFO controls the harmony note opposite it - so have to tie up all 3 LFOs just for that if wanting to modulate all 3 harmony notes internally.

That said, I imagined the LFOs to be more useful within the plugin itself, but other than the matching harmony note and its velocity, they just send out midi standard CCs for labelled destinations eg wheel (1), pan(10), reverb(91), chorus(93), sound ctrl 1 (71), sound ctrl 4 (74) etc, and there's no s&h waveform. Looks like pretty much all front panel parameters can be automated via the DAW though, so there's that.

It's another plugin that I might not have purchased had there been a demo, but for $20 it could come in useful at some point.

Yeah it's definitely pretty rough around the edges UI wise but surprisingly good results nonetheless. The core functionality works really well, imho.

On my version at the bottom it says "Special Preview release" so it might be just that they're getting a release out to make some cash.

They should hire a UI designer to tidy it up and maybe add more LFOs and LFO waveforms.

It would be cool to be able to modulate the LFOs offset and speed with other LFOS.

A step sequencer would also be great.

Thanks for the feedback on the GUI and LFOs, they are valid points.

OneOfManyPauls - you can also change scale via the scale button in the middle.

Can I ask what version you're using Kraster that says "Preview", is is VST3 Windows or Mac AU etc.?
The version number in your settings should be as follows, with no "preview" on the bottom:

I get the same message as Kraster mac:vst3

One other thing to add, even though I installed the AU/components version too, that doesn't show for me in the ableton plugin list (apple silicon mac, sequoia, live 12). It does work fine as midiFX in logic (and the same special preview release notice is in that too.

@OneOfManyPauls, @kraster
Does your version (in the settings page) match with 1.0.2506051905 ?
The Mac version may not have picked up the final GUI graphic. Just want to check your version #.
