Hey I was wrong about this, apparently it's fully backwards compatible:
Backward compatible. Speakerphone 3 replaces Speakerphone 2. When you open a session/song/project made with Speakerphone 2 (or 1), Speakerphone 3 will open in its place, with the same settings, reading all automation and producing the exact same sound.

Windows version released (for Altiverb already too btw)

The things that are less common in speakerphone are: phone compression algorithms (outside of LPC I don't know of any other software that does this though it can be mimicked), radio tuning emulation (choose AM or FM and how "in tune your signal is), a full range of modulation FX, a vinyl simulator, a flexible distortion, and a big modulation section for modulating all the parameters. All that stuff is separate from the convolution processing and the giant library of ambient/ background sounds.

I definitely plan to grab update, the only thing, need check how deal with cells for samples, i remember that samplebay was always a bit glitchi regards using extarnal wavs, imported user samples i mean. In differ times it was either unable to import, then able but names of imported samples not displayed. At Windows at least (i feel it always was like from Mac ported thing).
In the same time, ofcourse here there a bunch of another nice things, that compensated samplebay customisation flaws. (Additionally there were no probs with using factory samples), so that was not critical.
But anyway, i hope sample section was not passed too.
(Audiothing Textures can be a nice companion him heh)

Why do you think you need it? Audiothing's Speakers is a lot less. And McDSP FutzBox is in the middle, but regularly goes on sale.

For post-production, Speakerphone is quite a timesaver but if you're not doing post...

I did not say I need it, far from it.
I will recreate this routing in Bitwig Grid FX instead.

And not forget that SP can be using as instrument, his sample cells are triggerable from midi notes track (hope this was not spoiled accidentally).

We all dream of a day that work needs require us to purchase this expensive plugin.

That pricing is laughable. And there are so many other ways to do the same things, besides. Some of them free.

Yes, as an owner since 2012, I laugh a lot.

The obvious deficiency of the concept is only one installation/authorization per license.

This.

I asked them about it, was hoping that with the updates they'd change their licensing policy. They said that because most of their custom is big studio work, they won't ever add multiple installs per license. I haven't updated either Altiverb 7 or Speakerphone 2 and likely never will because of this policy.

I just upgraded and you have to surrender your Speakerphone 2 ilok license when you activate Speakerphone 3!
This is not good - what's going to happen when I open an old Reaper project that had Speakerphone 2 in it?
hopefully they're all bounced to audio - but who knows after 9 years (I got Speakerphone in 2016).

If I uninstall speakerphone 2 maybe Reaper would automatically load the new VST3 Speakerphone 3 to replace it - but who knows? There's no way to test it without trawling through all my old projects to find one which loaded Speakerphone 2.

Total PIA - I'm sorry I upgraded.

UPDATE:
Aram from Audioease support says:
"Speakerphone 3 VST3 will open where you used Speakerphone 2 VST2 before, with the same settings and sound.
You do need a modern Reaper for this to work (Reaper 7.35 or newer).
Also, the Speakerphone 2 VST2 plug-in should be gone for this to work.
The Speakerphone 3 installer tries to remove the v2 plug-in, but this could have failed.
Check your VST plug-ins folder, if the Speakeprhone.vst is still there, please remove it, then open Reaper again and try opening the old project. Speakerphone 3 should be loaded then automatically where v2 was used before."

So hopefully this will work. I don't have time to trawl through all my old projects to find which ones have Speakerphone 2 in them - but I know the "VST replace" function does work in Reaper.

This is better ;)
