So I have just dug out a copy of version 3 and installed it just by double clicking the defaults, and it installed to the x86 program directory. It booted fine first go and saves and loads from that directory. No crashes. I am on the latest Win 11 intel. Maybe its an AMD thing?

i cannot launch v3 on win10 either after upgrading my old hardware. went from 6600k (also running win10) to a newer intel cpu. havent yet tried to reconfigure anything in bios. when i inspect the error logs in the event viewer i see the following :
Faulting application name: energyXT.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x57321839
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.3693, time stamp: 0x3ab9e7d5
Exception code: 0xc0000409
ext64 works fine though. pity because wants to open old projects..

I've just built a new Ryzen 7900X system, and I'm running into the same issue with EXT3. You launch it, nothing happens. Now I know this isn't just an AMD thing, as the PC at my office is an intel ... I think it's 10th gen (can't recall off the top of my head), and I have the same problem there.
My laptop however, which I've been using since 2016, has a core i7-7700HQ, and has no issues running EXT3. Since they both run Windows 10, I don't know how much of the issue is OS related and how much is related to some newer architectural features.
As I'd heard mention of it not having a similar problem, I managed to track down an installer for EXT2.7 (thanks, web archive) and try it out. It did indeed work just fine, launching with no issues. Of course I had used V3 for a few projects and I don't know what extra features V3 added that might break project compatibility, but luckily the older version seemed perfectly happy to load the ones I tried.
In conclusion, if EXT3 doesn't get a fix (unlikely I'd say, with the focus now being on EXT64), EXT2.7 may get you up and running again. Older versions aren't available from the xt website, but I managed to find one from an earlier capture of the site on wayback machine.

I tried Version3 (the newest one) 32 bit on my Windows 11 computer and it doesn't start up.
Energy xt 1.4 and 2.0 do work though so I'm still doing well.

I run EnergyXT2.7 in my Windows 10 machine (i7-9700). I have installed it in its own directory - C:\Program Files (x86)\energyXT27 and run as administrator from my normal login account (which is an administrator account).
I never installed EnergyXT3 because I found it buggy on my old machine (Windows 7 on i3-2300).

Nah, not just AMD. It silently crashes on my Ryzen 7900X desktop at home and the Intel machine I have at the office; the generation of which escapes me right now. 2.7 runs great however and seems to happily load all my V3 projects.Ratibbla wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 5:10 pm could it really be the amd? i run it on my intel pc, but I get an error on my ryzen laptop.
both of them have win10

decided to give up on running ext3 on a 14th gen intel cpu.inkinen wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2024 12:14 pm I can report that i was able to launch a fresh install of 2.7 on my machine ( win10 64 bit, 14700k ). will check if its possible to open old projects.
i got it to work though on an older machine that has 8th gen intel processor, so i suspect its due to new memory protections in later architectures that causes ext3 to crash.
too bad that this marvelous host is abandonded. im investigating moving to ardour instead which seems actively maintained.

So now that I was more or less 'forced' to finally switch from Windows 7 to Window 11 (25H2) which required a newer hardware too, I've the same issue with energyXT 3.superddman wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 5:51 amNothing happens. It just won't start at all. Win 11 21H2ZonderP wrote: Mon Jan 09, 2023 9:26 pm![]()
What happens?
Does it just crash without any error?
Or is there an error displayed?
Or it starts but then doesn't work in some way?
What feature version of Windows 10 (1903, 20H1, 22H2, ...)
It doesn't launch anymore.
Older energyXt 2.7 and even newer EXT64 launch and work properly on the new system.
My new machine has an AMD processor, the old one had an Intel.
But probably there are also other differences which might cause this issue.
Hope I'll be able to find a solution.
Will post here in case of success.
But can start investigating only in ~4 weeks.

“ Hi, on my Ryzen based system I can run Energy Xt 1.4 and 2.7 without any problems, but if I want to run Energy Xt v3, I have to disable the hyperthreading equivalentt setting which is called SMT inside the BIOS. In short, the multicore version of Energy Xt doesn't run on Ryzen when virtual cores are enabled. ”
