Of course I could test it, but in 20 minutes ( I've read that's the trial duration ) , all I'll be able to judge is mainly the gui and a bit of the workflow
I have owned Pigments since version 1 and it's always a free upgrade so I have no experience with that demo

However other Arturia demos that claim a 20 minute limit just means after 20 minutes it will stop working so you have to exit out of it and reload it but you can use it for unlimited 20 minute sessions, usually saving presets is also disabled

So I don't think you have anything to worry about

Dont buy it!
I also have icarus, the korgcollection and some u-he plus some other stuff.
So my advice:
Buy some more u-he (diva, bazille, repro, hive) and you don't really need pigments. And you dont really need vcollection...

Looks like you want to purchase another 'swiss army knife' style synth.
Rather choose from this league:
Omnisphere
Falcon
Halion

There is some fantastic things in the V Collection not in diva, bazille, repro, hive. In particular Synclavier, SQ80, and Prophet VS

Arguably Pigments can do things they can't do either and has a different workflow that will take you different places with different results

Pigments is really good value for the price, but once I got into the u-he synths, I preferred them.
In the end, you don't need too many synths, it's maybe better to find a few synths that complement each other well and learn them well.

I also sold my V-Collection because it was just overwhelming to me. I kept Pigments, because there are some nice presets, it gets frequent free updates and its UI / ergonomics are good. Mostly I use u-he Diva / Repro for character synths now, hoping for a Zebra 3 release which would then be the flexible, do-it-all synth.

In my oppinion, the sound quality and palette of uhe synths beats many other competitors, including the whole vcollection (I know, because I owned that in the past) so this is why i gave this advice.
One more thing: imho GForce Software is also better sound quality then Arturia so you can browse their current caralog , maybe you find some attractive stuff.

Diva is the only soft synth that I ever thought 'wow' due to it's sound.

At this point Serum, face plant, current, pigments, etc. are all similar enough it doesn't matter to me which one I own. I happen to own Pigments and have no major complaints and I really like it's generative sequencer. So, demo it and see if you like it or not.

Falcon at the current sale price (50% off) is a steal!

Diva is a great synth and is my go-to for analog emulation; RePro is fantastic; so are GForce's many Oberheims. But neither company makes anything that can remotely compete with SQ80-V. They simply don't. It's not because of synth quality; it's simply that if what you want is an Ensoniq ESQ-1 or SQ-80 emulation, SQ80-V is nearly perfect, and no one else really makes a viable competitor. USQ-1 is not great and really the only other product in the same ballpark for even that *kind* of synthesizer would be Cherry Dreamsynth.

u-he doesn't make a similar synth. neither does GForce.

I have bought and sold it twice. I love how it looks, I love its usability, and whenever I need a synth like it, I reach for Phase Plant instead

But the U-he Synths (and I own all of the. BTW) and the GForce Synths (and I own most of them BTW) do not have anything like the Synclavier, SQ80, or Prophet VS in their pallette of available sounds, they also don't have the CZ or Fairlight. If your sole focus is Analog Style Subtractive Synthesis sure, but the V Collection has a lot more than that in its pallet but found elsewhere

As for pigments that also has a different palette of sounds, maybe that matters to you or maybe it doesn't

Again maybe that matters to

Vince, you're in the wrong forum for the advice you say you want. We're all GAS addicts rather than some version of AA.

But I will say this about Pigments: I've checked it out several times but have passed on it so far simply because I don't feel the bass sounds are deep and thubby enough for my own taste. Otherwise, it seems like a very versatile, capable, and good-sounding synth. Good luck with your decision.

If you buy Pigments, God will punish you.

Modal, additive, granular, virtual analogue are all done much better in other synths.
