Right, but it doesn’t. Turn off the light and the fx are still on. I have to then click on each one to turn them off.kv331 wrote: Thu Jul 03, 2025 6:43 amHi therehurricaneaudiolab wrote: Thu Jul 03, 2025 3:23 am What is this button supposed to do? Because apparently it does nothing...???

Sorry, my bad. I apparently had locked fx and didn't know it. But as I was figuring this out, hitting "reset values" inside the layer FX immediately crashes Logic.

What version of SynthMaster 3 are you running ? I try reseting layer fx but did not get a crash. If a certain preset caused this, could you send me name of the preset? Latest version. It doesn’t appear to be preset dependent. Seems to happen repeatedly over here if I INIT a preset (it doesn’t crash the INIT) and navigate with arrow to next preset. Then it crashes. But then sometimes it doesn’t. But then sometimes it does. I select a random preset from the browser, doesn’t crash. Use arrows, doesn’t crash the first few presets, but then it eventually crashes.
I misspoke and am actually on Logic 11.1.2.

Thanks for the bug report. I fixed the issue related to: "Resetting layer FX crashes SynthMaster 3". Please check for updates inside the plugin or logon at: https://www.synthmaster.com/userarea.aspx and download the "update" setup for v3.3.3

Finally decided to upgrade from v2 to v3.
Searched this thread (not entirely, tbh), but couldn't find this mentioned:
is there any explanation why I'm having a very laggy and irresponsive GUI in some hosts?
Hope the .gif below is enough to provide an impression what I mean (buttons/knobs/etc not or very delayed responding, not really always, but often, in this example especially on the "Routing" and "Seq" tabs):
Capture taken when using SM3 in Cantabile (Solo version) host. Same behavior in Studio One Pro (v5) and vPlayer 4
Tested vst2 and vst3 versions, also changed all settings that might be related, nothing's helping.
Not sure if the .gif really tells it, but SM3 is barely useable like that.
Verified hosts where it's behaving "normal" (still a bit laggy, but by far not as bad):
Standalone, Bitwig Studio (latest), PluginBuddy (latest), Waveform Pro 13
One difference I noticed is: when it's NOT lagging, the little white parameter popups DON'T appear. Whereas when it IS lagging, the little popups show up (as seen in the .gif, hope you can also see the text in the popups is constantly flickering).
It's in particular a bummer for me this is exactly happening in Cantabile. Because my main intent was to run SM3 in Cantabile, to make use of the 16 layers, driving them with (semi-)generative sequencers, for jamming/performance/fun.
SynthMaster 3 could be quite perfect for that, but frankly I can't use it like it is, so I'm hoping this could be fixed.
Cantabile and vPlayer offer free versions (Cantabile "Lite" requires registration/account), if needed for verification. Happening on a Windows 10 OS.
Thanks.
EDIT: in hosts where I'm not having the laggy behavior, as described before, the parameter popups don't show up. That means there's zero indication anywhere on the GUI about knob positions, parameter values and so forth...
So that's also not good lol. Second .gif captured running SM3 in PluginBuddy, which is freeware.
(forgot to mention it's afaik the latest version of SM3, downloaded and installed today)

Another thing:
either I don't understand it, or the lock-to-scale and chord features on the keyboard aren't working.
When set to chord mode, no chord is playing. When set to a specific scale, it's still playing notes out of the scale.
And this seems to be buggy in general. I was trying to figure out what's up, and when I switched it from "GLOBAL" to "PRESET" that overlay thing appeared at some point (wasn't there before). Thought scale snapping and/or chords would work then, but still doesn't.
Also, that overlay looks confusing and it's simply not correct. Below you can see how it looks when the scale is set to D# minor:
That's clearly not D# minor. Also ain't sure what the overlay really means, are the "green black" keys supposed to be in scale, or the "black black" keys?
Couldn't find something useful in the manual (btw, couldn't even find a dedicated manual for v3, think it's the one for v2.9.9).
(all of this happening when using a MIDI keyboard, for clarification and in case it matters)

Until I resolve this issue, there is a workaround for this: disabl popup tooltips:
I tried to reproduce the issue with Cantabile Lite / Studio One 6, but no luck so far. No lag with tooltips enabled.

If you want to set scales separately per each instance, you need to do 2 things:
1. set the global scale to "Preset" & global scale root key to "P"
2. set the preset scale to whatever scale you want and set the preset scale root key to the root key you want
We have a tutorial video on scales:

Thanks, I already had a look at it again before you replied, and it seems obvious the parameter/tooltip popups are a factor. Here's another .gif (taken in Cantabile) where you can see how bad the text on them is flickering:kv331 wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 9:06 amHi there,
Until I resolve this issue, there is a workaround for this: ...
And this is exemplary for the lagging, the entire GUI handling (turning knobs, pushing buttons, etc) "feels" like the popups are looking, inconsistent and shaky.
Now, later on I realized "tooltips" refers to those parameter popups (not to some help "tooltips", what I assumed first), and also noticed parameter values appear on the top display when "tooltips" are disabled. For that part it solves the issue.
But of course the problem still exists when tooltips are enabled.
AND: in the before mentioned hosts where I don't have the lagging, there are no tooltip popups at all. I mean they just don't show up, no matter if they are enabled or not. Shown below using the standalone (as you can likely tell from the look of the bottom bar):
In summary I'd say there's definitely something wrong or causing issues with those popups. It's a bit odd that you can't reproduce it, do you have the popups on the standalone?
At first I had the suspicion it might have to do with different graphics rendering/backends/whatever of the respective hosts, but the native standalone is certainly as clean as it gets in that regard.
Yes, this probably was a user error, my bad. Guess I didn't fully grasp that system, I'll have to take a closer look at this again when I got more time to do so.
Thanks for your help already.
