Please convince me NOT to buy Arturia Pigment 6

There are probably few sounds you can get from Pigments that you couldn’t get from another synth. Once you get to that level of “do everything” style of synth, that tends to be the case.
For me though, Pigments is still worth owning, because of the UI and UX. And personally, those things matter a lot. Whereas, of course, they might not for someone else, or indeed, they might but their preference in such things could differ.
Oh, and I tend to get along just fine with Arturia’s policies and procedures, so far anyway. The same can’t be said of all audio plugin / DAW companies.

Obviously, you don't need it.
That said, it's awesome and could easily be anyone's only synth plugin.
I love it.
I'm in the "just buy it" camp.

Pigments is one of the best looking and easiest to use synths out there, it has a good UI. Not perfect - still slightly tabby/pagey - but the bulk of what you use is all on the main screen. All in all it's very easy to use.
It also sounds fine.

I never got on with Pigments.
On paper everything looks good but in practice it just leaves me cold. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is about it that doesn't click with me but I almost never use it. I think it's the workflow that doesn't gel with me.
Of those kinds of "super synths" I'd rank them Serum 2, Current, Phase Plant/Avenger.
Others like Halion, Falcon and Msoundfactory are in a different bracket because they're less fixed architecture. (You could add Phase Plant to that list I suppose.)
I don't have Icarus so I can't comment on that.
I think of the plugins you have Phaseplant probably covers most of what Pigments can do. The only area where Pigments could have an advantage is that it has a sequencer/arp.

You don't need Pigments, of course, I suggest keeping an eye on the buy and sell forum, it's often on sale (I got it there). I am using it, it's great in sound and workflow, but for some reason, I'm not in "wow" about it.
And I also wonder why it's so often on sale, both from Arturia and in the "used great" forum.
Anyway, I'll keep it; they keep improving it, and so far, every update has been free.
Also, check Serum 2: in my opinion, it's a great complement to Pigments - they have some overlaps but also something specific that "the other" cannot do or doesn't do so well. And they have a great workflow and GUI.

If you arent using what you have you wount use Pigments as well. You will be happy at first buying pigments and it will be because of dopamine that you get when buying things. That feeling will pass, you will chase for another sale to get that dopamine rush and Pigments will be collecting digital dust.

Be sure you actually like the sound.
I don't.
The only thing I use from it is the sequencer every now and then.
But honestly I should just sell it...

I'd demo Pigments before you buy. It's a polarizing synth with it's proponents and detractors. To me, it's very "meh". Totally usable with a sexy UI, but IMO it visually looks much better than it is. Many people claim that it's sterile, and I can understand that sentiment.Vince wrote: Sat Jul 12, 2025 9:10 pm Ok guys, gals & anything in between, I hope you're having a great day.
With the summer sales and some discount, I have the opportunity to buy Arturia Pigment 6 at $80 .... I know it's packing a lot of features ( few synth engines ) and some interesting gui but I'm also reading that the granular engine is "meh" ...
If I read their marketing BS, I wonder why I didnt sell a kidney yet to buy a copy of Pigment ...![]()
I'm also considering the granular engine of Minimal Audio Current which seems to be way better ...
When you already own U-He Ace & Zebra 2 , Tone2 Icarus, Kilohearts Phase-Plant, the Korg collection, the Arturia V Collection ... do you really need it ?
So my question is simply : will Pigment 6 be able to create sounds that "only" Pigment 6 can create ?
If not, then I'll skip it.
thanks all for your opinions, help and peace !

Current is great, but the granular section isn't much to write home about IMO. Not much better or worse than Phaseplant, just a little different.
If your interest is specifically about the granular aspect, I'd just go get a dedicated granular synth or something bespoke like Dawesome Novum.

I didnt know it was "unlimited 20 min" ... thanks for the heads up !tactile_coast wrote: Sat Jul 12, 2025 11:18 pm Plus the demo is an unlimited 20 minute session so you can just keep refreshing it for as long as you like.
