Reproduceable crash, steps:

load the attached preset > play/hold some notes to run the Arp > add a default LFO > modulate something like the "Formant" knob on Filter 2 > try to adjust the mod amount > SM3 freezes

Following host behavior (crash/freeze/etc) depends on the host. The .gif shows the standalone, can only be killed via TaskManager.

Note: the preset is a bit messy (and it's just one where I was testing some stuff), only OSC 2 on Layer 2 is really in use. I wanted to clean it up, but for some strange reason it's not crashing anymore if I let's say delete Layer 1 and resave as a new preset.
So there's a small chance it's in fact something on Layer 1 that triggers the crashing/freezing (which would be weird of course).

At first I had the suspicion it might have to do with different graphics rendering/backends/whatever of the respective hosts, but the native standalone is certainly as clean as it gets in that regard.

On the standalone version, I don't see any popups, so I will have to take a look at that.

With Cantable, I tested both VST2 and VST3 versions. So far, I don't experience any flicker/constant update with the popups (That's what I see in your video, the GUI is constantly updating, and that's choking the system)

Hi again,

Thanks so much for this bug. It was an important bug! Basically, the modulation knobs on layer 2 were miscalculating their layer index which caused all sorts of issues. So, I fixed that and the issue is gone now. Wait for v3.3.4!

Ah I guess this explains why it didn't further crash when I deleted Layer 1 and saved as new preset. Because it turns "Layer 2" into a "Layer 1" and there isn't a second Layer anymore.

Different question:
is there any documentation about the GUI Editor? Can it be accessed directly from within SM3 (like with a keyboard shortcut from the standalone)?
The Editor is quite unstable here, often crashing or so, I remember it was already the case with the one from SynthMaster2. And it's awkward to work with, at least if you know nothing about it.
For example I created a copy of the "Tranquil Blue" skin in the Editor. Closed the Editor after a while, and when I wanted to launch it again it greeted me with this error:

The error won't go away no matter how often you click "OK" or "X", the Editor doesn't open and I can only kill the process.
Tried to fix by editing the .config file, changed where it says "LastSkinName" from "Copy of..." to ""SM3 Tranquil Blue", so that it won't try to load the "Copy of..." on startup, but that's not helping.
In the end I could fix it by deleting the new created "Copy of..." folder from the parent "Skins" folder.

So it would be nice to have a resource where one could look up how this thing is actually functioning

I had a look and SM3 is utilizing the shown .dll modules when running in Cantabile (or also in Studio One 5, where the SM3 GUI behaves the same):

SM3 v3.3.4 vst3, tooltips enabled, so there's lagging at this point.
At least some of those DLLs seem to be graphics related. Updating those DLLs could possibly solve the issue, do you accidently know if those .dll files are part of vcredist packs?

By the way, changing those settings in Cantabile doesn't make a difference (that's my default and I don't have any issues with other plugins):

But to be clear:
since I don't have lagging when tooltips are disabled, and I still can see the parameter values on the top display, it's not that bad after all. I would prefer to see the values right next to the controls, but it's not really a problem in the end.
So please don't make this a priority or anything

Hi guys,

Since we have low revenue numbers for SynthMaster 3, I am wondering if majority of our existing/potential users really need advanced editing features or just good presets. So, I am currently brainstorming on the next version of SynthMaster Player (SynthMaster 3 Player). Here's the feature set I have in mind:

1. will read SynthMaster One/SynthMaster 2/SynthMaster 3 presets just like SynthMaster 3.
2. will come with all factory presets of SynthMaster 1/2/3 (4500 presets so far)
3. users won't be able to edit inside layer modules & modulation sources, but other than that, users can edit all parameters (just as layer voice, layer zone, layer sequencer/arpeggiator, layer fx)
4. users will be able to load existing presets into layers just like SynthMaster 3 to create more complex patches.

As for modulation editing, I haven't made up my mind yet though.

As for price, MSRP: $49

If you have any comments on this, let me know.

Simple Question: Is there a reduced price for Synthmaster 2 owners or is it the same price for everybody?

Synthmaster user for about 10 years now. Still one of my favorites.

Well, I give up. I'm trying to buy Synthmaster 3 but I can't. When I go to buy it, it says I already have a license. But then when I try to bring it up in my DAW, it says I don't have a license. When I go to the user area and try to download the license file, it says I don't have a license. I don't have a license everywhere except when I go to buy it. There, I have a license and it won't let me buy it.

I know. I've known him for a very long time. I bought Synthmaster 2 in 2014 when I first went to PC recording and bought Synthmaster 1 the day it came out.
