I tried Sample tank 2..crashed
Tried amplitube....crashed.
Just tried sonik synth...crashed.
I'm not prepared to sacrifice the stability of Tracktion but....
I really need a good amp sim for mac...
Whats the deal with IK stuff.
Will it ever work in Tracktion?

amplitube had an issue for as long as it's been around in many hosts on windows where multiple instances would cause a crash. they just released an update (late dec i think) that seems to have finally cleared it up (at least on my machines). Don't know about the mac.

I dont know what it is about IK stuff and Tracktion. They just dont seem to like each other. Well to be fair I had way more problems with Amplitube and Cubase. SonicSynth1 works fine in Tracktion, except for the rare crash when switching presets. But even that is enough for me to avoid using IK stuff in Tracktion, it just doesnt seem solid.
On a brighter note, I think Garageband2 comes with an amp sim since you're a Mac user.

I don't really use Tracktion, but DL'ed it 'cause it was free. I was able to use ST2 XL and sonic synth free in it OK, on a Mac. Which interested me as I didn't know I'd even installed the VST versions.
I didn't try amplitube though. I know thats not much help, but at least it can work... Good luck with an answer to your problems.

IK plugs are not the most stable in the world.
I do run Amplitube and Tracks in Tracktion and it works most of the time.
Occasional crashes are there but are manageable.
As far as SampleTank and SonicSynth you must disable "use Real Time Priority Mode"
otherwise it's a no go.
I use Windows thou so this might not help the Mac people.

Im on an ibook so I ditched garageband cus it takes up soooo much hardrive space..plus i think it sucks.AD80 wrote:I dont know what it is about IK stuff and Tracktion. I switched from DP3 to Tracktion after going from OS9 to OSX and dont want to go back to the sphincter clenching days of hoping things wont crash.DP was just plain neurotic.
Tracktion does everything well and productively.
Stability of plugs is paramount.
on a brighter note I just D'lded Amplitube LE on demo and so far its been stable..Could be cus its got less files dotted about all over the place....i'll see until the demo runs out.
If it doesnt crash I'll buy it.
It does enough for me.
Chaars guys

I primarily use sonik synth 1 on a mac and have had no problems whatsoever.
It seems that more issues arose with the new (2) version. We need to distinguish between platforms and versions here. Has anyone had problems with SS2 on a mac? I'm concluding after reading some threads on the sonic reality forum that it's definately worth the upgrade.

I have Sampletank 2XL and have had some problems too.
It works fine if I have up to three separtate instances in an edit. But if I go over that, it's anybodys guess what will happen. Now mind you, my machine never crashes when I'm playing an edit. It only crashes when I go to render an output. Ive also dl'd t-racks, and amplitude demo versions. They all work fine for me except with amplitude and the more than 3 instances per edit scenario.
I've also found that on occaision, Sampletank doesnt like it when it has to start on the very first beat of the song. I found that if I move the piano scroll forward one beat, or remove the first beat, ST is very happy. The bad results come in two differnt packages. The first is that it occaisonally crashes, and the second is that it sometimes plays the first note through the whole song. This happens about 20% of the time when rendering only. Again, It always plays just fine.
Scoops

Use "Render at x1"Now mind you, my machine never crashes when I'm playing an edit. It only crashes when I go to render an output.
That should work fine.
