When you open a project made in a previous version, the original project file is automatically backed up.
f**k YES, every DAW should do this!
This is what I like about Bitwig - it's just so well thought out

I think this is an awesome update. 2 things i miss regarding the automation updates.
1. Didnt we had an option in 5 to create an additional lane for parameters? You created a shape for pitch for example and now we could create another curve for the pitch where the whole automation lane 1 was changed by this curve?
2. when having a selection of points to be able to drag a ramp at the beginning or decrease the highest and increase the lowest

Post

Just realised that an automation clip in the 'clip' view, can also affect the arrangement playback...

Makes perfect sense but it hadn't clicked before. So now you can play an arrangement, but also sequence live 'automation' alongside (or just have clip-based repeats without arrangement for automation).

Game Changer !

For (1), your're talking about relative automation ? https://www.bitwig.com/userguide/latest ... automation

You can taper points to ramp (shear) up/down a selection for (2), certainly. From the 6 beta changelog:
With the Time Selection tool, various editing functions are available with [ALT]-drag to move points up and down:

[ALT]-drag in the center will Offset Time Range moves only the time selection.
[ALT]-drag from the top to Scale from Maximum, preserving the minimum value.
[ALT]-drag from the bottom to Scale from Minimum, preserving the maximum value.
[ALT]-drag on the left edge to Shear Start of Time Range, bending the start of any time range.
[ALT]-drag on the right edge to Shear End of Time Range, bending the end of any time range.

FANTASTIC ! LOVE the new UI

Even though I was never a fanboy of Bitwig, I'm slowly seeing the potential to become one :tu:

Siiiick. I've been advocating for automation clips for a long time, and I've even suggested adding tools to give clips extra functionality like being able to use curves and modifiers like randomness. Feels like this update was made for me haha.

Thanks for 2.! Now this would be great to be able to drag it straight and in curved mode. Cubase does this.

Is relative automation gone? Didnt found it so far.

Next Actions also work for Automation Clips in the Launcher

not sure how this stops me from using a machine with earlier CPU that has enough processing power.

:? It does look like it may have gone with the automation rework... at least a quick glance suggests it's not where I'd expect :dog: With the new automation clips, the old 'free running' option on automation 'associated' with a clip (which you can still do) seems to have gone.

Going to need someone knowledgeable to explain I think.

I suspect they will undo this. I've seen two other companies recently add AVX2 as a requirement, only to roll it back a single version later after realizing like 30% of their customers are on micoarchitectures that don't support it.

The new (better) way in 6 is to create an automation clip of a different length of the content clip, then set the automation clip to loop. When you resize the content clip, the automation clip will resize to match, but with different loop lengths. Perfect.
