Yeah. Melodyne is an incredibly useful tool, even if you never use it to alter the pitch. Even just using it to analyze instrument and vocal tracks more than justifies buying it.

So I'm working on a project right now. I write out a simple chord prog. I name this pattern Piano: A Then I create a 2nd pattern duplicated from Piano: A to create more of a rhythm. I name this Piano: B.
So here in this scenario we have two patterns.
Now if I'm starting this track in my song and I have these two patterns I want to audition them and see what sounds better at what part. So I swap Piano: A Pattern out for Piano: B. If I swap this clips pattern out now if I right click my patterns - Piano: A is gone because it was my only copy.
I feel like in the era of making this pattern system I shouldn't have to drag and drop a copy of this pattern to the loop system on the left - its so much easier to hot swap out the regions with a right click then dragging everything into place remembering what you deleted or didn't delete etc.
I was really curious what your thoughts are on this as other users?

I'm not sure how useful it would be to have Bitwig remember your patterns forever. Isn't that what you're saying? A pattern you created 15 days ago should still be there, even though it's not being used anywhere. That basically means that every single clip you create will be there forever, used or not, unless I misunderstood what you're saying.qtheerearranger wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 3:14 am I feel like in the era of making this pattern system I shouldn't have to drag and drop a copy of this pattern to the loop system on the left - its so much easier to hot swap out the regions with a right click then dragging everything into place remembering what you deleted or didn't delete etc.

I'd rather have Bitwig get rid of everything not being used, because otherwise you'd have to manually clean up all of this yourself. In any case my workflow seems to be different than yours. I use the clip launcher as my sketch pad, and everything I'd like to keep is there.

It's an interesting problem. I've always used the launcher as a "clip palette" of sorts so I've not encountered it, but I see why you might expect Bitwig to keep old patterns around.qtheerearranger wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 3:14 am I feel like in the era of making this pattern system I shouldn't have to drag and drop a copy of this pattern to the loop system on the left - its so much easier to hot swap out the regions with a right click then dragging everything into place remembering what you deleted or didn't delete etc.

Might be worth writing to Bitwig about it. A menu shortcut to add a clip from the arranger to an empty scene in the launcher could already make this workflow much easier to handle.

I mean in this scenario I just created this pattern and it’s gone - I feel like a lot of people are going to stumble into this. What’s the point of the pattern system if it’s destructive to the original when you switch? Do we have any FL studio people in here to chime in on how they do it?muzicxs wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 7:05 amI'm not sure how useful it would be to have Bitwig remember your patterns forever. I'm not sure FLS is a great example to follow, as that's a really 'odd' workflow in many ways, and is very specific to the FL legacy.qtheerearranger wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:14 pmI mean in this scenario I just created this pattern and it’s gone - I feel like a lot of people are going to stumble into this. However, Studio One for example (and others) do allow the concept of 'variations' and they don't have to exist in the arrangement (or clips) but are visible on the clip/pattern itself to be edited, so they can always stay around and be used as wanted.
So I would say keeping them is fine, but having a way to easily organise/edit them all is critical.

I also prefer the mental model where the ‘original’ is in the clip launcher, and the arranger just holds placeholders that reference the originals, so nothing gets lost.Fortunately, the background color of identical-corresponding aliases is set collectively, so giving them the same color helps avoid confusion within a track — you just need to color-code them neatly.Dionysos wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 7:36 amIt's an interesting problem. The other big advantage is that the mute state is clip-based(and not alias), so you don’t need to pull instances or 'placeholders' out of the arranger — it’s enough to just mute them. In other words, you can easily build templates and apply subtractive arrangement simply by muting

I'm not a bitwig user - testing the beta right now. I don't know if this is a bug or not? Im in track view of the piano roll. I have g2 and g3 whole bar notes. I put some random notes in between g2 and g3
as seen here When I shift select those 3 notes you see highlighted. release shift and go up and down the scale with the notes - you will notice piano notes get deleted and broken apart (seen here: the more you play around with this behavior. I'm assuming this is a bug but maybe it's just a basic piano roll?

I thought a current update plan was required to play with the BETA.
What's the trick?

Splice rent-to-own has a free trial or just pay 16 bucks and use Bitwig for one month + trial period.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 6:18 pmI thought a current update plan was required to play with the BETA.

You said tuning vocals, and just saying there are non ARA tools to do this. (My Autotune is not ARA)jens wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:08 pmThe classic Autotune is a realtime effect and a completely different thing. The current Autotune Pro also can function in a similar way to Melodyne - but to make full use of it... you need ARA2
So nice suggestion there - you basically proved yourself wrong.
Maybe... just an idea... I mean it's pretty obvious that you don't use these tools yourself and have a rather rudimentary idea what they do and how they can be used (suggesting offline use instead of ARA is funny at best) so why don't you concentrate on topics you know a lot more about instead?![]()
(I am not up to date with ARA, you are correct)

Not quite clear what you're doing here... Dragging pattern A onto pattern B and A gets over written?qtheerearranger wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 3:14 am So here in this scenario we have two patterns.

If you have multiple patterns in arranger, you can duplicate a range and seperatly loop by changing the loop area.
Also you can create multiple scenes and then jump from one to another.
Another alternative is to duplicate the channel and you can edit the copy with a new variation.
Also mayve this will help, it shows how you can mix scenes and the arranger.
Destruction of clips when another is dragged on top, yes bit ideal, but in someways better/cleaner than allowing stacked clips.
There's always Bitwigs great undo so you can always get it back, you could maybe even destructively move and undo it you only want to audition.
Otherwise just make a copy and drag it off to the right in the arranger as a scratch pad.

No Leras I’m moving notes down the scale on the same track in the same clip. I believe it’s a bug.
Elbo, I own bitwig that doesn’t mean I use it. I’m not a daily user of bitwig I probably launch it twice a year. I like to support this company that’s doing weird things and it looks like my support has finally paid off - really liking this update overall. If you call that a user tomato tomatooo. I just meant it as I don’t use this daw a lot and don’t understand what its normal behaviors are.
